A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:34 NKJV
Jesus was speaking to His disciples. He would be leaving. He was preparing them to continue His ministry. Jesus never told His disciples to do anything He didn’t do. Jesus told His disciples I have loved you now you must love each other!
God the Father God the Son and God the Holy Spirit existed in a perfect loving relationship throughout eternity. God created us to live in that loving relationship with Him.
Sometimes we forget that our faith is based on love. God created you so He could love you. The Lord’s love for you is immeasurable. His love for you is unfailing. His love for you is eternal. God the Father sacrificed His Son as evidence of His love for you!
Why is it so important to Jesus that we love each other? God saved us so He could continue His Earthly ministry through us. He wants us to reflect His character to the world. Jesus wants to form His life in us and lives out His life through us so He can save other people!
Jesus wants to hold us up as examples of the great and mighty works He can accomplish in the lives of people who walk by faith in Him. Jesus wants people to see Him in us!
I walked away from a loving relationship years ago. Both of our hearts were broken. My life became a blur of drugs alcohol and immorality. I knew there was a God in heaven. I refused His love. I withheld my love from Him.
The Lord rekindled that love. My hard heart melted. It was a time of great joy. Something was still missing. Sin crouched at my door. I invited it back in. I was left physically emotionally and spiritually drained.
My love had given her life to Jesus. She stood by my side when she should have run for the door. Her love and devotion helped me emotionally. Her love and care helped me physically. Her love and prayer led me to Christ!
Jesus gives you the freedom to receive His love. He gives you the freedom to obey His commands. Jesus gives you the freedom to love His people!
Will you obey Jesus’ command to love people? Will you allow the Lord to love people through you?
Your obedience to Jesus expressed through love can lead people to faith in Christ!
