Teach me, and I will be silent; And show me how I have erred. Job 6:24 NKJV
Job is deeply hurt by his friend’s unkind words. Job needed encouragement, compassion and understanding. He received accusation, condemnation and judgment.
I am struggling today. My trials seem light and momentary in the revelation that Jesus is with me. The effect of troubles and tribulation in my life fades into darkness when viewed through the light of God’s love. Do yours? They can if you trust them to Jesus!
When I read this verse I was reminded of two men who spoke into my life when my family was in distress. The first was a church leader I have known for many years.
My wife and I raised six children. She suffered from one illness after another. We struggled to support our family. One day my friend asked how we were doing. I told him my wife was sick and we were late on our rent.
His friend’s response was; “Here we go again. It’s always the same with you, nothing ever changes. You’ve had the same problems over and over again since I met you.” Those words cut through my heart like a dull knife!
Years later our home was in foreclosure. It was a humiliating and heartbreaking experience. A friend called to ask how I was doing. I told him. He asked if he could stop by to see me. I said no. He came over anyway.
I told him my wife and son were heartbroken. I was embarrassed and humiliated. He listened and asked, “do you trust God?” I ran down the laundry list of our trials and troubles to him. He asked again, “do you trust God with your life?”
It was time for me to take a stand of faith in God. I responded by saying, “Where else can I turn. Who else can I turn to? Yes, I trust Jesus with my life!”
Those two men taught me very important lessons. The first taught me to choose my words careful when speaking to hurting people. The second taught me a good word spoken at a critical time can make a difference in some one’s life!
Job made mistakes. He wasn’t perfect. More importantly his faith in God prevailed over trials and troubles at critical times in his life.
I have made mistakes. So have you. We can be known for our faith in God regardless of our trials and troubles. We can trust Jesus with heartache and sorrow.
Trusting Jesus with pain and heartache may seem impossible at times. It is not. It is much easier to be yoked to Jesus than it is to bear your burdens alone!
Let Jesus show you where you have erred. Let the Lord show you how your trials and troubles can be used as a testimony. Let Jesus reveal the power of His presence in your life to people who need to know the God of mercy and grace!
