Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6 NKJV
God’s greatest command is to love Him with all of our hearts with all of our souls and with all of our strength. God’s second greatest command is to love our neighbor as ourselves. These two commandments reveal God’s character to us! I have heard people say when we teach the Lord is a God of love we are deceiving people. They say we are telling people what they want to hear. They say we are teaching part of the truth but not the complete Word of God. We must study, teach and obey the full counsel of God, but to minimize God’s great love for us is a mistake. The basis of our relationship with Jesus is God’s great love for us! Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:7-11 NKJV God is Holy. He requires Holiness from us. God hates sin. He has and will pour out His wrath on the ungodly. He does it to bring us back into His will. What is God’s will? Almighty God wants us to love Him with all of our hearts, with all of our souls and with all of our strength. He wants us to love our neighbors as much as He does! Maybe you have strayed ever so slightly from the truth. Maybe with the best of intentions you have turned your relationship with Jesus into a religion. Return to your first love. God is motivated by love. He wants everything we do to be motivated by love! When I set my heart to seek the Lord I see Him high and lifted up above creation. In the shadow of His holiness I see the darkness of my sinful nature. My soul is filled with sorrow and shame. And then God’s love flows over me like a river of mercy and grace! God’s perfect love casts out fear of judgment when we trust Him to have His way with us. God is not waiting to condemn you or punish you. Jesus is waiting for you to turn to Him in love. The Lord is preparing you to receive all that He desires to give you! Jesus is not through with you. He began a great work in you. You were created to be like Jesus. The Great Potter will continue to mold you and shape until there is no shadow between you and your savior! You will be blessed, and God will be glorified when you surrender to the work He wants to accomplish in you and through you. Trust Jesus to form His life in you.
