“You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, you shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment. But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment.”
“You have heard that it was said, you shall not commit adultery. But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Matthew 5:21-22 & 27-28 Jesus went up on a mountainside. His disciples came and sat before Him. He taught what we know as the Sermon on the Mount or The Beatitudes. We should recognize it as a Sermon of Blessings! Jesus did not come to abolish the law and the prophets. He came to fulfill them. He said we must surpass the righteousness of the Pharisees to enter the kingdom of heaven. People who had ears to hear were told the pride of life the lust of the eyes and sinful pleasures have nothing of eternal value to offer. True rewards await them in heaven! We are the salt of the earth. If we lose our saltiness we serve no eternal or earthly purpose. We are the light of the earth. Our light should pierce the darkness so other people can find their way to Jesus! Jesus called His disciples to turn from earthly values to pursue heavenly purposes. It was no longer enough to follow the Ten Commandments. He wanted their minds to reflect His holiness. Jesus is calling us to abandon earthly values and pursue heavenly purposes today. What does that mean? It is not enough for us to just obey the Ten Commandments. We must take control of our thought life. Our thoughts drive our behaviors and fuel our attitudes. If I harbor resentment and un-forgiveness it hardens my heart. The anger builds until it boils over. My witness and ministry suffer. I bring shame to Christ rather than glory to God. If I lust after other women the desire for my wife diminishes. The sweetness of our intimacy sours. The desire to please and care for her is replaced with selfishness and insensitivity! God pronounced blessings on people walk in humility seek His ways and set their hearts on the kingdom to come. He warned people who set their hearts desire on the pleasures of this fallen world. Do not sit in the seat of fools. Don’t join in the counsel of the wicked. Sit at the feet of Jesus today. Take your counsel from the Word of God. Sit atop the mount of blessings all the days of your life! http://www.joyfor2day.com https://twitter.com/JoyFor2day #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
