I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8 NKJV
Suicide among the rich and famous has become as common as terrorist attacks and gun violence. How could someone so beloved and admired fall into a pit of depression so deep he or she cannot climb out?
There is a God sized need for Jesus in every human heart. Most people are not even aware of it. It cannot be filled by riches, fame, friends, family, the truest of loves or any human endeavor.
America is full of jetsetters and trendsetters who seem to have it all. Nothing they possess will ever be enough if they do not have a relationship with Jesus. A house that is built on sand cannot stand. A house that is built on the solid rock of Jesus cannot fall!
I have been in the pit of depression. I could not eat or sleep for days on end. I had trouble concentrating. I could not complete simple tasks. I suffered hallucinations and became hyper vigilant. I lost so much weight friends thought I was seriously ill.
I was unable to climb out of the pit on my own. I did not have to. Jesus crawled into the pit with me. That is where I met Jesus!
Christians are not immune to depression. I have learned to recognize when I am slipping in to the pit. When it happens, I do what I can and trust Jesus to do what I cannot. Jesus has never failed to reach down and pull me out of the pit!
Jesus does not “practice” medicine the way doctors do. Jesus is the Great Physician. He heals people who call out to Him for healing!
Fame does not put our hearts at peace. Jesus does. A rich man has many things to worry about. People who store the Word of God in their hearts like great treasure sleep soundly. The world is a scary place. People who trust Jesus will dwell in safety forever!
There is nothing wrong with being famous if making Jesus famous is our true purpose. God blesses some people with worldly treasure, but He does not want us to set our hearts on it. Jesus wants us to set our hearts on the goodness and mercy of God!
Jesus has different priorities than most people. How about you? What do you treasure above all else?
Do you worship at the altar of knowledge or seek the wisdom of the ages? Would you be weighed down by trinkets that make it difficult to enter the kingdom of God or cast aside everything that hinders your walk with Jesus? Do you trust Jesus and follow Him or listen to the voices of the unbelieving multitude and follow them?
Follow Jesus to the treasure that will put your heart and soul at perfect peace!
