So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear; slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. James 1:19-20 NKJV
God gave us two ears but one mouth so we can listen more twice as much as we speak. If we listen twice as much as we speak there will be fewer misunderstandings in our relationships. Our ability to make wise decisions will be enhanced. We will spend less time asking God for things. We will listen more for the Lord’s direction and guidance! God wants us to be swift to hear slow to speak and slow to wrath because we can overreact or make hasty decisions before we know all the facts. Verse twenty reads; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Before I was saved I learned to react to my circumstances in anger. I spent the first 32 years of my life trying to be a tough guy. Christians get angry. We should be angry when we encounter young people in bondage to drugs and alcohol. We should be angry when we see people used and abused. We should be angry when our schools teach values that contradict scripture. The Word of God tells us not to sin when we are angry. And not to let the sun go down on our anger. A fool gives full vent to his anger. Anger is not a sin. It is the inappropriate expression of anger that is sinful. When we go through trials and hardship the inappropriate expression of anger hinders God’s work in our lives. The inappropriate expression of anger does not produce life changing transformation. Obedience to the Lord does! God can use anger to stir us into action. Jesus wants us to turn Him when we are angry. He wants us to bring everything before Him in prayer! I know the heartache and sorrow caused by the inappropriate expression of anger. I also know the appropriate way to deal with anger is giving it to Jesus. The circumstances that anger me are allowed by God. He can use them or change them. I also know that knowledge is not the same as wisdom. Wisdom is the correct implementation of knowledge! If I am slow to wrath and do not act out inappropriately God shows Himself mighty on my behalf. He gives me a way of escape. He reminds me of how much He loves me. He reminds me that I am His favored child! Regardless of the sin that so easily besets you God will make away of escape for you. He will remind you that He loves you. You are His favored child. Be swift to hear slow to speak and slow to wrath today! http://www.joyfor2day.com https://twitter.com/JoyFor2day #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
