Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy, And gathered out of the lands, From the east and from the west, From the north and from the south. Psalm 107 NKJV
This is a Psalm of thanksgiving for God’s deliverance and an exhortation to praise Him! God makes a distinction between the blessing of the godly and the affliction of the wicked. Jesus delivers His people from distress. He gives them a place to live when they have no home. Jesus feeds His people and gives them water to drink. He satisfies the longing soul with goodness, grace and peace! People who rebel against God will be diminished and brought low. When the wicked fall there is no one to help them up. Fools because of their transgression and iniquities are afflicted. They eventually walk through the gates of death. Three times in this Psalm we read, “Oh that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men”. God uses this phrase when He speaks of the blessing He bestows upon people who turn to Jesus in their time of need. He speaks of the great and mighty ways He will bless them. The godly are people who have called on the name of the Lord and received the free gift of salvation. We may have lived wickedly in the past. We may be living in wickedness today. Because of the mercy of God we do not have to remain in wickedness. Wickedness is failing to turn to Jesus in our time of need. It is refusing to turn to Jesus for salvation. The Lord determines the difference between good and evil. He separates the godly from the wicked. God judges the intentions of our hearts. He says, “Turn to me in your time of need. Turn to me when you suffer hardship and distress. Turn to me for salvation!” It is impossible for God to forget. If you turn to Him for He will choose not to remember the days when you walked in wickedness. Maybe in a time of need and distress you judged God to be unfair and unkind. Maybe you turned your back on Him because you thought He turned His back on you. God will never turn His back on you! Jesus is calling you today. He is waiting for you to seek His face. He is waiting for you to incline your heart towards Him. Turn back to the God of grace and peace. Give thanks to Jesus for His goodness and mercy! www.joyfor2day.com https://twitter.com/JoyFor2day #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
