“I have made a covenant with my eyes; Why then should I look upon a young woman? For what is the allotment of God from above, And the inheritance of the Almighty from on high? Is it not destruction for the wicked, And disaster for the workers of iniquity? Does He not see my ways, And count all my steps?” Job 31:1-4 NKJV
Job defends his integrity, why? Job believes he does not deserve to suffer. In his mind loss pain and suffering are reserved for evil people. The belief that God always blesses the righteous and inflicts sinners is a major tenet of his theology.
God blesses the righteous. We receive the righteousness of Christ when Jesus forgives our sin. He judges evil. An evil person is someone who lives like the Lord does not exist.
Evil people do prosper. The righteous do suffer. To believe otherwise can contribute to a pious attitude.
If God punished every sinful act we would suffer most of the time. If He always blessed us the way expect we would have no testimony to share with people. We would become spiritually spoiled and lazy. We might even harden our hearts against unsaved people.
We are all sinners. Some of us are saved by the grace of God. Some are not. God loves all people. Jesus wants to save everyone!
At a prayer meeting I asked God to correct me when I need correcting. A friend said he couldn’t believe I would ask the Lord to do such a thing. He said to ask for God’s correction is a fearful thing. He asked me why I would do that?
I asked God to bring correction into my life when needed because I trust in His grace and mercy more than I fear His wrath and punishment!
We can take the doctrine of grace too far and use it out of context. Jesus does not condone sin. He takes it very seriously. He does not allow sin. He forgives it. We should always be willing to forgive the sin of others and hold ourselves accountable for our own!
Job needs an attitude adjustment. God will be faithful to give him one!
We all need an attitude adjustment from time to time. That is no surprise to God. The Lord can and will adjust our attitudes with or without our approval.
Jesus wants you to be a willing partner in the work He wants to accomplish in you and through you!
Trust in God’s grace and mercy more than you fear His wrath and punishment!
