O God, why have You cast us off forever? Why does Your anger smoke against the sheep of Your pasture? Psalm 74:1 NKJV
The Babylonians destroyed the Jewish temple. They took Judah into captivity. The psalmist prayed for his people to be delivered from the oppression of their enemies.
The temple was the center of life in the Jewish nation. It was where they gathered to worship. It was God’s dwelling place. It symbolized their status as the apple of His eye.
God delivered Israel from Egypt. He gave them a land where they could dwell in safety. He gave them homes where they could raise their children without oppression. They were taken back into slavery. It must have seemed like the end of the world to them.
The average Israelite must have wondered, “Where is God when we need Him!” Why doesn’t He rescue us?”
God judged Israel for their sins. He did not turn His back on them. The Lord’s plan was to bring Israel back into His blessing and protection. God brought Israel back into the land He promised them.
Have you ever wondered, “Where is God when I need Him? Why doesn’t He rescue me?” I have!
Jesus said; “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.” Jesus also promised to be with us during trials and hardship!
