The Beloved
Behold, you are fair, my love! Behold, you are fair! You have dove’s eyes. The Shulamite Behold, you are handsome, my beloved! Yes, pleasant! Also, our bed is green. The beams of our houses are cedar, And our rafters of fir. Song of Solomon 1:15-17 NKJV The relationship has moved beyond courtship to intimacy. The young lovers behold each other with longing eyes. They steal away to a place known only to them. Was this book written to reveal God’s passionate love for His people or is it the account of an actual romance that took place early in Solomon’s reign. It is both. Solomon betrayed his passionate love. He took hundreds of brides and concubines. Some set their hearts on false gods. They worshiped idols. Solomon followed them into sin. Perhaps that is why Solomon said there is vanity under the sun. True love became collateral damage when Adam and Eve disobeyed God. One of their children killed his brother. Sin spread to every corner of the earth as mankind multiplied. The institution of marriage has been perverted. Many of them end in divorce. God is longsuffering and kind to us. Our welfare is important to Him. God is not the sources of evil and suffering in the world. He loves justice and truth. His love never fails. It never disappoints. His love for us is perfect in every way. His love endures forever! He who does not love does not know God, for God is love 1 John 4:8 NKJV True love is a gift from God! The excitement of a man and women sharing simple pleasures and pursuing each other with honor and dignity is a type of the romantic relationship Jesus wants with us. Marriage is symbolic of the intimate relationship the Lord created us for. In our fallen world love often leads to heartbreak and sorrow. The pursuit of it can lead us into sin. Love that grows and deepens over time can be tossed aside for the temporary pleasures of sexual passion. So many of us look for love in the wrong places. The foolishness of men (and women) does not devalue God’s gift! I know what it is like to feel unloved and unwanted. That is also a gift of God. It left a void in my heart only the true lover of my soul could fill. His love came pouring in like an avalanche of healing joy. It freed my soul so I could love the bride of my youth! Have you ever felt unwanted or unloved? Have you ever looked for love in the wrong places? True love has a name. His name is Jesus! Surrender to His love. It will set you free! http://www.joyfor2day.com https://twitter.com/JoyFor2day #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
