God stands in the congregation of the mighty; He judges among the gods. Psalm 82 NKJV
God has not gone away. He judges the powerful when they abuse the authority He gives them. His justice will prevail. How long will you judge unjustly, And show partiality to the wicked? Selah Defend the poor and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy; Free them from the hand of the wicked. Vs 2-4 The Psalmist accuses judges of corruption and injustice. He exhorts them to rule in righteousness. He confronts them with their true calling, to meet the needs of God’s people. They do not know, nor do they understand; They walk about in darkness; All the foundations of the earth are unstable. Vs 5 The blind led the blind in antiquity. Their ears were stopped up by arrogance. Their eyes blinded by pride. The desire for more power made the world unstable and unsafe. I said, “You are gods, And all of you are children of the Most High. But you shall die like men, And fall like one of the princes. Vs 6-7 Royalty were often considered gods in antiquity. They were not. The Psalmist reminds them they were created by God. They will die as all people do! God has not gone away. He rules over heaven and earth. He judges the elite when they abuse their power. He sees evil deeds done in secret. Our leaders corrupt justice. Even those with clean hands and hearts put politics and ideology over the needs of people. God wants them to turn back to their true calling. Representing Him on the earth. Meeting the needs of people. Confronting evil and fighting for righteousness! Wisdom comes from the Word of God. Most power brokers do not believe in the God of the bible. Their wisdom is found in whatever produces a harvest of profit and power. Arise, O God, judge the earth; For You shall inherit all nations. Vs 8 The world will not go on as it always has. God will intervene. Old things will pass away. All things will be made new. Righteousness will illuminate the shadows. Peace and justice will replace sorrow and sadness! Jesus wants you to turn back to your true calling. Represent Him on the earth. Meet the needs of His people. Confront evil in prayer. Fight for righteousness through obedience to the Word of God.
