Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. Matthew 5:3-9 & 12 NKJV
I looked at my church bulletin. These words jumped off the page at me. I could see the contradiction between the way God calls us to live and how the world teaches us to live.
God called to me when I was seventeen. I remember feeling as if I was caught up in a struggle between good and evil. I believed I was the prize in that struggle. I knew God was calling me to trust Him with my life. It was fifteen years before I surrendered to Jesus, why?
I thought if I surrendered my life to Jesus I was going to miss out on something. I was living a sinful lifestyle. I thought I was having fun. I didn’t want it to end.
Sin is fun for a season. It leads to pain and destruction.
There are people who know God is calling them, but they do not answer. They think they will miss out on something if they do.
Jesus wants us to be joyful people filled with the love of God. He wants us to live rich prosperous lives. Living for God gives our lives purpose and fulfillment nothing else can.
The world teaches us that seeking fame and fortune is a worthy pursuit of our time. God says people of humility will possess the true riches of His Kingdom!
People who trust Jesus and mourn on the earth will be comforted by the God of love!
The world teaches us to be bold so we can take what we want from life. God says the meek will inherit the earth!
People who hunger and thirst for Jesus will be filled with the Spirit of God!
The Lord calls us to be merciful to other people and promises mercy to us!
If you have a true desire to know Jesus you will see Him one day!
God wants us to be peacemakers. There will be peace when the Prince of Peace returns for His sons and daughters!
Rejoice and be glad today. Trust Jesus with your life. There are great rewards awaiting you in heaven!
