Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great. You are clothed with honor and majesty, Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain. Psalm 104 NKJV
This psalm begins and ends the same as the previous chapter, with the words, Bless the Lord, O my soul! God repeats Himself for a reason. We were created to bless the Lord! The same words were used in a worship song. When we sing it they rise up to God like a sweet smelling aroma. I think that is exactly what the psalmist had in mind. God is sovereign over all of creation. If we could see the Lord His honor and majesty would overwhelm us. We would be overcome by the light of His purity and truth. He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters, Who makes the clouds His chariots, Who walks on the wings of the wind. Who makes His angels spirits, His ministers a flame of fire. Vs 3-4 God sets up His throne where He chooses. Creation obeys His every command. He can walk upon the wind or speak from a burning bush. The heavenly hosts obey Him alone. When we surrender to Jesus His spirit burns within us. His truth fills our hearts and minds. We can run and not grow weary. We can rise above our circumstances. We can love people as never before. We can bear witness to His mercy grace and love from one corner of the earth to the other! We don’t do those things in our own strength or wisdom. The spirit of God does them in us and through us! I came home after being away for ten years. I became a Christian. A man at church asked me if I would give away some donated produce. I walked into a local ministry. A name was mentioned that I had not heard in many years. I was amazed. A man who grew up in a large and notorious family gave his life to Jesus. His father and brothers were drug addicts and criminals. Most of them served time in prison. Before he met Jesus he sold drugs. I was told he was a pastor. I could hardly believe it. A few years later the Lord put that man on my heart. I prayed for him for an entire weekend. I went to work Monday morning. I checked my voice mail. I heard his voice on my answering machine. We worked together for the next few years. The God who stretched out the heavens like a curtain wants to stretch your faith in the coming year. He wants to fill your heart and mind with truth and light. He wants to love the lost the lonely and brokenhearted through you! Surrender everything to Jesus in 2019 so you can bear witness of Him from one corner of the earth to the other. You will not need to do anything in your own strength or wisdom. The Spirit of God will set your heart on fire for Jesus! www.joyfor2day.com https://twitter.com/JoyFor2day #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
