Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:6-7 NKJV
Timothy was the third generation of his family to follow Jesus. He was a young Pastor. Paul encouraged Timothy to be a Godly example to the next generation of Christians. Paul encouraged Timothy to exercise his spiritual gifts.
Paul encouraged Timothy to lead the church in a bold manner. Paul encouraged the next generation of believers to continue in the faith. Paul is also encouraging the next generation of modern believers to continue in the faith.
In chapter 2 verse 2 Paul said, And these things that you have heard from among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
Paul is encouraging us the lead the Body of Christ in a bold manner today. It is our privilege and responsibility to pass on to the next generation what was given to us. The knowledge of God. The word of God. Our faith in Jesus.
How do we stir up the gift of God which is in us? By exercising our faith. By using our spiritual gifts!
Timothy was timid but God called him to be a teacher. He was not a natural leader. That did not stop God from calling him to lead.
Paul was a murderer but presented his body as a living sacrifice to Christ. Paul was a legalist. Jesus transformed him into a minister of the grace of God.
You are unique. There is no one like you in all the world. God gave you a specific set of skills and abilities. He gave you Spiritual Gifts so you can do the work of an evangelist.
Many of us have spiritual gifts we have not yet discovered. They lie unused and dormant. How do we discover them? How do we learn to use them for the glory of God?
The Lord put a message in my heart. I knew it was not just for me. I felt like my heart would burst if I did not release it in faith. I felt like I had no choice but to share it with other people. The truth is I did have a choice. I chose to step out in faith!
I started sending out emails anonymously. A few months later I went to work in a prison. I taught men how to change their lives. It changed mine!
People are waiting for you to share the love of Jesus with them. God can send anyone. He can use anyone. Jesus has chosen you. He wants to use you.
God is reminding you to stir up the spiritual gifts He gave you. He has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and a sound mind. Use the spiritual gifts God gave you. Lead people to Jesus Christ with great boldness!
