The psalmist declares the Lord’s eternal love. Although he makes a grievous complaint he takes comfort in the eternal nature and mercy of God. The psalmist is conflicted. He calls on the Lord to hear his prayer. He calls on God to answer him speedily. He voices his complaint, recites his afflictions pain and the shortness of life. He feels reject by the Lord and overwhelmed by his enemies. The psalmist knows God loves him. He knows the Lord is merciful and longsuffering towards him. He knows God is eternal and unchanging. He knows God will be with him and for him until the end of time. So why is he so conflicted? There is a conflict taking place on the battlefield of his mind. The psalmist is overcome and overwhelmed when he focuses on the trials and hardships of life! But You are the same, And Your years will have no end. Vs 27 The psalmist begins this chapter by crying out God. He knows the Lord hears His prayer. He knows the Lord answers prayer. It is well with his soul when he takes his thoughts captive and forces them to submit to the obedience of Truth (Christ). The psalmist’s heart is in turmoil. His mind races when he judges God by his circumstances! The last two weeks have been an emotional roller coast ride of hope faith and love. It has been a time of disappointment anxiety and anger as well, why? Because I did not always stand on the high ground of truth in the battlefield of my mind! The Psalms reveal the conflicted nature of a born again sinner. Our spirits are willing to walk by faith and not by sight. Our feelings emotions and circumstances provoke our sinful nature and try to unseat us in the heavenly places with Christ! The battle to live a life that pleases God takes place in our thought life. We can take control of our thoughts. Jesus empowers us to win our battle of faith! It times of trial and hardship remember Jesus! He is a God of love and mercy! He never changes! Jesus loves you! Nothing can separate you from His love. Your soul will never be at peace until that truth settles into your heart. When it does nothing will ever steal your joy!
