Our redeemer lives!

Then the women said to Naomi, “Blessed be the Lord who has not left you this day without a close relative; and may his name be famous in Israel!” Ruth 4:14 NKJV

There was a famine in Israel. A man named Elimelech, his wife Naomi, and sons moved to Moab. His sons married Moabite girls. Elimelech and his sons died. The widow’s lives were shattered. How would they live? Where would they go? What would they do?

Naomi wanted to return to Israel. She told her daughters in law to return to their families. They wept. They wanted to remain with Naomi. She insisted. Naomi had nothing to offer them. Why should they suffer the same fate God determined for her?

The names of Naomi’s daughter in laws were Orpah and Ruth. Orpah went home to her family. Naomi and Ruth returned to Israel. God led Ruth to work in a field owned by a close relative. God gave Ruth favor. Boaz protected and provided for Naomi and Ruth.

In ancient Israel a male relative could redeem the inheritance of a person in poverty. He could also redeem a person sold into slavery. The kinsman often took the widow of a relative as his wife. This close blood relative was known as a kinsman redeemer.

Boaz was wealthy. Ruth was virtuous. Boaz was reputable and highly esteemed by his people. Ruth was a woman of honorable character. This would seem to be a match made in heaven. But there was a closer blood relative with the first right to redeem.

The closer relative refused to redeem. Boaz redeemed and married Ruth. God blessed them with a son. Boaz was blessed with a virtuous wife. Ruth was rewarded for her faithfulness. Naomi’s life was renewed as she loved and cared for her grandson.

The child of this godly couple became the grandfather of king David. Our redeemer, the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ is of the line and lineage of David in His humanity!

I was saved, baptized and married in the spring when all things seem fresh and new. Resurrection Sunday is close at hand. And yet I am troubled in my spirit. I am keenly aware that this world is not my home. Where can I go? What can I do?

Jesus is closer than any blood relative could ever be. Jesus redeemed me. Jesus brought me into His family. I can run to Him. I can rest in the blessing of His great love today!

This world is not your home. Our Saviors return draws near. Creation will be redeemed and renewed. You will be blessed beyond your wildest dreams. Be honorable. Stay faithful. Jesus will deliver you from the trials and troubles of this fallen world.

Jesus bought us back at a price only He could pay. He is was and will always be closer to people who call on Him than any blood relative could ever be. Jesus is our kinsman redeemer. You can rest in the blessing of God’s great love for you today!

Are you lacking in spiritual resources? Are you in bondage to sin? Call out to Jesus. He paid the price required to bring you back into His eternal family. Make His name famous!

Joyfor2day daily devotional goes out over the internet to thousands of people all over the world five days a week

Jesus can use you to shake the foundations of the prison and set people free!

Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune telling. This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out that very hour. Acts 16:16-18 NKJV

The slave girl was speaking the truth. She was possessed by an evil spirit. The evil spirit was drawing people away from Christ!

This attack came as God’s servants went to prayer. The enemy of our souls attacks when we step out in faith. Satan seeks to distract us. He wants us to focus our attention on things other than Jesus.

The devil perverts the truth. He uses it against us. No one can serve two masters. This girl was speaking the truth about Paul and his companions while practicing witchcraft. When people claim to speak for God we must consider how they live.

The girl followed the disciples for several days before they cast the demon out of her. It is important for us to wait on the Lord before stepping out in faith. The bible tells us Paul was greatly annoyed by this girl. Paul was not fearful. The Lord was with Him!

Paul and Silas were put in jail. The owners of the slave girl were angry at the loss of income when the demon was cast out of her. While Paul and Silas were in jail they shared the gospel with the jailer. His entire household was saved.

God uses Satan’s attacks for His glory and our salvation!

Satan is a real being. He takes people captive to do his will. There really are demons who seek to destroy God’s people and bring destruction to our world.

We have nothing to fear from the devil or his demons when we live according to God’s will. We have nothing to fear from anyone or anything when we step out in faith to serve Jesus!

Jesus wants us to fear Him and Him alone. He wants us to know His power and authority are unequaled in all of creation.

God wants you share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the people in your life. Jesus wants you to walk in great boldness because He is with you everywhere you go!

Jesus can use you to shake the foundations of the prison and set people free!
