That He would show you the secrets of wisdom! For they would double your prudence. Know therefore that God exacts from you less than your iniquity deserves. Job 11:6 NKJV
Zophar reproves (corrects or scolds) Job for attempting to justifying himself. He argues God’s wisdom is unsearchable. He urges Job to repent.
This verse reminded of a prayer meeting I attended years ago. The man leading the gathering prayed about people who do not know God. He asked the Lord to judge them for their sin!
If we could see through the wisdom of God’s eyes would be more careful what we pray for. We would know God does not give us what we deserve. He gives us what we need. We would extend that grace to other people!
Satan convinced Eve God was a liar. He said if they ate the fruit of the forbidden tree they would be like God knowing good and evil. They did gain knowledge. They still lacked wisdom. The wisdom of the ages had always been available to them.
Job was right when he said he was righteous. Job was not righteous because he never sinned. It was not because he was perfect. It was not because he had great wisdom. Job was righteous because God declared him righteous!
Much of what Job’s friends said was true. Their motives were wrong. They were quick to judge, condemn and accuse. They were quick to point out the error of Job’s argument. They were slow to offer comfort and support. They did not reflect God’s love to Job.
Before we cast imaginary stones at Job’s friends were should remember that most of us have made the same mistakes. I certainly have. How about you?
God does not judge the way people do. The Lord allows sinners to continue in their way. Otherwise we would have never been saved. Jesus would have given up on us before we surrendered to Him. He would have had to strike us down long before we repented!
God allows people who are declared righteous through faith in Jesus Christ to suffer loss and pain. We do not always understand why. God exacts less from us than our sin deserves. He pours out more grace than we could earn. Jesus loves more than we know!
Wisdom like love is more precious than anything that can be bought or sold. Most people look for both wisdom and love in the wrong places!
Anyone who lacks wisdom can call out to God. The Lord will give it to us generously without condemning or accusing. Anyone seeking true love can call on Jesus. He will answer with forgiveness and mercy.
Knowledge puff us up with pride. Godly wisdom takes us to our knees. Ask Jesus to give you a discerning heart and drop to your knees. Share God’s love with hurting people!
