And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature. So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way. Luke 19:3-4 NKJV
I heard a Pastor say we should live on our tiptoes looking for good things to come. I immediately thought of this portion of scripture. Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector. Tax collectors paid bribes for the right to steal from the Jewish people. They collected more taxes from the people than were due and kept the extra. They were despised and hated by the people they should have served. Zacchaeus heard Jesus was passing by. He climbed up a tree so he could see the Lord. When Jesus came near the place where Zacchaeus was He looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus come down, for today I must stay at your house.” Some legalists complained saying, “He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner.” Zacchaeus climbed down from the tree and received Jesus joyfully declaring, “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.” Jesus said to Zacchaeus, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham; for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Zacchaeus was a sinner. He extorted money from his own people. The legalists believed they were in right standing with God. They did not consider him one of their own. Jesus did! Jesus did not deny Zacchaeus was a sinner. Jesus He came to save sinners. Jesus loved sinners. Jesus came to heal and restore the apple of God’s eye to their rightful place in the Kingdom of God! Do you know Jesus?
