Jesus wants us to be holy because He is holy!

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them; You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy. Leviticus 19:1-2 NKJV

This is not an obscure or irrelevant verse of scripture. God’s command to be holy is a consistent message throughout the bible. Does God really expect us to be holy? Can we really be holy?

I am not a Pastor Priest or Theologian but my degree in common sense tells me if God commands us to be holy, He expects us to be holy!

The word holy means to be set apart. God expects His children to be set apart for His glory. God expects us to be set apart in a relationship with Him. God expects us to be set apart from people who do not live in relationship with Him.

My wife and I love each other very much. We live in a special set apart relationship with each other. I know many other women. I have relationships with some of them. None of those relationships is anything like the relationship I have with my wife. I do not give myself to any other woman the way I give myself to my wife.

Jesus wants us to give ourselves to Him in ways we do not give ourselves to anyone or any other thing!

I consider my wife in everything I do. I do not make decisions based on my selfish desires. Everything I do today must pass through the filter of my loving relationship with my beloved.

Jesus wants us to consider our love for Him in everything we do. Jesus does not want us to make decisions based on our selfish desires. Jesus wants everything we do to pass through the filter of our loving relationship with Him!

God calls us to live in obedience to His every command!

Jesus wants us to live a life of blessing and prosperity. When Jesus says something is good it is good indeed. When Jesus says something is bad it is truly bad. Jesus calls us to lives of Holiness and obedience because that is how he created us to live!

We cannot be holy. Only God is holy. Paul said it is no longer I who live but Jesus who lives in me. We are not holy because we are good people who go to church and follow the Ten Commandments. We are Holy because God the Holy Spirit lives in us. The Lord lives out the life of Christ through us!

You can live in Holiness by allowing Jesus to form His life in you and live out His life through you. Jesus lives in you to will and to do of His good pleasure.

It pleases Jesus to live out His life through you. It pleases Jesus to love you. It please Jesus when you express your love for Him through obedience to Him!

Joyfor2day daily devotional goes out over the internet to thousands of people all over the world five days a week

Jesus can use you to shake the foundations of the prison and set people free!

Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune telling. This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out that very hour. Acts 16:16-18 NKJV

The slave girl was speaking the truth. She was possessed by an evil spirit. The evil spirit was drawing people away from Christ!

This attack came as God’s servants went to prayer. The enemy of our souls attacks when we step out in faith. Satan seeks to distract us. He wants us to focus our attention on things other than Jesus.

The devil perverts the truth. He uses it against us. No one can serve two masters. This girl was speaking the truth about Paul and his companions while practicing witchcraft. When people claim to speak for God we must consider how they live.

The girl followed the disciples for several days before they cast the demon out of her. It is important for us to wait on the Lord before stepping out in faith. The bible tells us Paul was greatly annoyed by this girl. Paul was not fearful. The Lord was with Him!

Paul and Silas were put in jail. The owners of the slave girl were angry at the loss of income when the demon was cast out of her. While Paul and Silas were in jail they shared the gospel with the jailer. His entire household was saved.

God uses Satan’s attacks for His glory and our salvation!

Satan is a real being. He takes people captive to do his will. There really are demons who seek to destroy God’s people and bring destruction to our world.

We have nothing to fear from the devil or his demons when we live according to God’s will. We have nothing to fear from anyone or anything when we step out in faith to serve Jesus!

Jesus wants us to fear Him and Him alone. He wants us to know His power and authority are unequaled in all of creation.

God wants you share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the people in your life. Jesus wants you to walk in great boldness because He is with you everywhere you go!

Jesus can use you to shake the foundations of the prison and set people free!
