Therefore, submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. James 4:7 NKJV
There are born again Christians in our prisons!
When I worked in a prison I met men who are very committed Christians. They stand up in a dark and dangerous environment to declare their faith in God!
Many of them were raised in Christian homes. Many are familiar with the scriptures. I even met a man who was involved in prison ministry before he was incarcerated.
A client asked if I thought he was still saved. He said he had a relationship with Jesus but started using drugs. Drug use led to prison. I told him if he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior he is born again regardless of sin and incarceration.
Some of them are secret agent Christians. They do not confess their faith in public because of gang politics and peer pressure. They live in bondage within the prison walls. They have not submitted their lives to God. They have not resisted the devil.
In a therapy group I talked about taking a stand. I used the analogy of soldiers determined to hold a piece of ground at all costs against a superior enemy. Declaring they will not be moved. They will fight on to victory or die where they stand!
Jesus wants us to have that level of commitment to Him!
We do not have to fight in our own strength and wisdom. Jesus does not want us to die for Him. He wants us to die to self. Jesus wants us to live for Him!
Our war of faith is not fought on a battlefield. Our battle is fought by people who resist the devil. We fight a spiritual war in the spiritual realm against a spiritual enemy. We fight our battle by submitting to Jesus!
Jesus is going to deliver part time Christians from a life of practical unbelief. The Lord is going to deliver people who have not submitted to His will and authority. God is going to deliver people from sin and bring them to salvation in Jesus Christ!
Even people who have walked with the Lord faithfully for many years can slip into apathy and malaise. It is important to resist the devil in the little decisions we make without much thought.
The seemingly insignificant sins lead us away from submission to Christ. The small acts of obedience lead us toward the cross.
God can mold you and shape you into a mighty person of faith if you submit to His will and resist the devil!
