Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8:3 NKJV
A woman caught in the act of adultery was brought before Jesus by the scribes and Pharisees. They told Jesus she should be stoned. Then they asked Him, “But what do you say?” Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger. When my family was in crisis I began sending out these messages. Two of our children were in bondage to drug addiction. My wife and I were nearly incapacitated with grief. God began to minister to us through His Word. He gave us encouragement when we needed encouraging. He gave us hope when we needed hope. Through the pain and sorrow God began to form His heart in us. When the Pharisees continued to ask Jesus what should be done, He stood up and said, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her.” Jesus stooped down again and wrote on the ground with His finger. Then those who heard Jesus were convicted and left one by one. Jesus said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord”. And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” The Lord gave us a glimpse into the pain and grief He feels when His children walk away from His love protection! Jesus never condemned sinners. He did call them to repentance. Jesus did call out people who thought they were sinless. Jesus could look into the heart of a person identified by sin and shame. He could see a precious child gone astray. He could see the need and affliction caused by sin that leads deeper into sin. He loves sinners! God uses our children to form His heart in us. It is not an excuse for sin. Jesus does not cause sin. He does not condone sin. He calls us to walk away from sin! When people we love walk into sin we can react in sinful ways. Our response as parents can be like throwing gasoline on a fire. Parents are as easily drawn into sin as children. I do not have the answers for a parent dealing with a strong willed child or rebellious teenager. Jesus does! Jesus is the light that pierces the darkness of unbelief. He can bring healing and restoration into our lives. He is calling us to learn His ways. Jesus can guide us through the trials of life in a fallen world. Jesus wants us to walk in the light of His love! Jesus can see into your heart today. He wants you to repent when sin dwells there. He wants you to turn to Him for answers when you are incapacitated with grief and pain. Jesus can stoop down to write on your heart. The Lord can form His heart in you! #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
