But Jesus called them to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.” Luke 18:16 NKJV
People brought small children to Jesus so He could touch them. When the disciples saw what was happening they rebuked those people. Why would the disciples rebuke people for bringing children to Jesus? Why would we prevent children from coming to Jesus? I doubt the disciples really thought through their actions. If they did they would have encouraged people to bring their children to Jesus! Maybe they thought Jesus had more important things to do. He did not. Maybe they thought Jesus was looking for more socially prominent or wealthy people to minister to. He was not. Did they think Jesus was bothered by the children? He wasn’t. It is easy to criticize the disciples for preventing children from coming to Jesus. It is not as easy to examine our own behaviors to determine if we are preventing young people from coming to Jesus. I heard a bible teacher criticize churches that use contemporary music and multi-media presentations. He said he appreciates a good show and great music but does not consider it worship. Would Jesus? The bible tells us to worship God in spirit and in truth. Does it matter what kind of music is used? It may matter to young people. Should we use visual images to stir our hearts and lead us into worship? We live in a visual world. The enemy uses visual images to draw our children away from Christ. The Holy Spirit can use them to draw our children to the Lord! When I was a real estate broker I spent a lot of time sending and receiving emails. I started praying about sending out these messages. From out of nowhere I started receiving ads for a witchcraft website. That was all the confirmation I needed. There are a lot of evil things going on in cyberspace. Should we surrender it to the enemy? No, God owns cyberspace. He will be glorified in it. The gospel will go forth in cyberspace. Jesus will use cyberspace to save people just as He uses tv and radio! The bible tells us to discern the times. Internet communication has become the new hi-ways and bi-ways of our world! Young people will find different ways to serve God. We should support not hinder them. We did things differently than our parents. Our children will do things differently than us. Our goal should be to lead them to Jesus not away from Him! Let the children come to Jesus today. That means me and you. Seek Him early and often. Serve Him all the time. Do both everywhere you go and everywhere you spend time today! http://www.joyfor2day.com https://twitter.com/JoyFor2day #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
