Then Job answered and said; “Truly I know it is so, But how can a man be righteous before God? If one wished to contend with Him, He could not answer Him one time out of a thousand. God is wise in heart and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against Him and prospered? Job 9:1-4 NKJV
In chapter 8 Bildad says; “Behold God will not cast away the blameless, Nor will He uphold the evildoers.” Job acknowledges God is just. Then he makes an incredible statement. He says; “But how can a man be righteous before God?” No one can be righteous before God. We can be declared righteous by Him. That may seem like a play on words. It isn’t. Job was not any more righteous than you and I. Yet the Lord described Job as a righteous man. God declared Job righteous because He trusted the Lord enough to honor Him. Job honored God by being very careful how he lived. He honored God through his fear and reverence for the Lord. Job honored God by trusting the Lord with his life. Job honored God by his steadfast determination to accept the Lord as the ultimate authority over all things in the heavens above and on the earth below. Pain, suffering, hardship and trials are caused by the decision to contend with God. We may not say we know more than God but sometimes we act like we do. Adam and Eve made a deliberate decision to contradict God’s instruction not to eat the fruit of the forbidden tree. They believed the fruit would give them knowledge that was reserved for God. It brought sin and death into their lives! When God asked Adam if he ate the fruit of the tree he did not give a clear answer. He blamed Eve. There was no good answer for what Adam did. The simplest and most compelling explanation for why it was wrong is God told him not to eat it! Adam knew he couldn’t argue with God. He knew he shouldn’t disobey God. He did it anyway. Adam, his family and the generations that followed all suffered for his foolish decision to disobey God. We are suffering the consequences for Adam’s decision today. God is wisdom personified. His power and strength is unequaled. Nothing can prosper in opposition to Jesus. The does not stop people from trying! Will you trust Jesus enough to honor Him? Will you honor Jesus by being very careful how you live? Will you honor Jesus through your fear and reverence for the Lord? Will you honor God through steadfast determination to accept Jesus as the ultimate authority over all things in the heavens above and on the earth below? There are people all over the world contending with God today. Do not follow after them. Follow Jesus. Honor the God who is wise in heart and mighty in strength! www.joyfor2day.com https://twitter.com/JoyFor2day #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
