And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. Philippians 1:9-11 NKJV
God is giving us a glimpse of Paul’s heart. Formerly Saul of Tarsus, Paul assisted in the murder of Stephen. He hunted down members of the early church. He opposed the gospel of Jesus Christ. God transformed Him into a minister of the Gospel of grace!
Paul is in prison. He is not focused on his circumstances. He is focused on the welfare of the church. He is not asking for prayer. He is praying for the church. When Paul does ask for prayer it is for boldness to preach the gospel!
Paul prays for the church to crave Holiness. That our faith would not fail. That we be found faithful when Jesus Christ is revealed. For us to bear fruit for the Kingdom of God.
Paul does not pray for the Philippians to do anything in their own strength or wisdom but by submitting to God’s will. Paul prays for Jesus Christ to live out His life in them and through them. Paul prays for God to receive glory, praise and honor!
Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father today. What is He doing? He is interceding for us. What kind of things does Jesus pray for?
Jesus could be whispering into the Father’s ear right now. He could be asking the Father to give us a desire for holiness. Jesus has already prayed that our faith would not fail. Jesus prayed for us to be filled with the fruits of righteousness to the glory of God!
Jesus is empowering us with His Holy Spirit so we can be found faithful when every eye sees Him for who He really is. Jesus wants us to be found among the faithful when every knee bends before Him in submission and every head is bowed in reverence to Him!
God used Paul to accomplish great and mighty works of faith in his day. The Lord wants to use you to accomplish great and mighty works of faith today!
Our faith can be sincere and without offense if it is in Jesus Christ. We can be filled with the fruits of the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus!
Love covers over a multitude of sins. It covers ours so people are drawn to Jesus instead of being offended by us!
Ask Jesus to give you a heart to love His people. Pray for your love to abound more and more in knowledge of Jesus and discernment of His Spirit working among us today!
Pray for others to abound more and more in knowledge and discernment so they can approve the things that are excellent and be sincere in their faith without offense till the day Jesus Christ is revealed to all creation!
