Make haste, O God, to deliver me! Make haste to help me, O Lord! Psalm 70 NKJV
The prayers of David are coming to an end. But we are not there yet. I believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit are in operation today. I also believe the primary way God speaks to people is through the scriptures. I do not believe it is the only way. God speaks to people through dreams and visions. The Lord brings His Word to life. Jesus is teaching leading empowering and encouraging people today! The opening verse of this chapter reminded me of something that happened when I was a new Christian. My grandfather was in hospice. He was in great pain. I asked if he wanted me to pray for him. After I prayed my grandfather looked past me in amazement. He said in Spanish, “Look, see how fast they come!” I do not know what my grandfather saw. I know Jesus made haste to deliver him. I know the Lord made haste to help him. I know I will see my grandfather again. We will spend eternity together. How do I know these things? I know them by faith! Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; And let those who love Your salvation say continually, “Let God be magnified!” Vs 4 David did not just pray for himself. David prayed for all of God’s people. David prayed for us! I have seen Jesus work in mighty ways when I put my needs and desires aside to pray for other people. I could tell stories of answered prayer that magnify Jesus’ Name and encourage His people. I will save them for another day. I will tell them. But I am poor and needy; Make haste to me, O God! You are my help and my deliverer; O Lord, do not delay. Vs 5 Jesus is not looking for the strong and mighty. He is not looking for people of great wisdom. Jesus helps people who know they are spiritual poor and needy. Jesus helps people who want His help and guidance! You have needs and desires only God can supply. Trust all of them to Jesus. He will make haste to meet them. You may not see immediate results when you pray. Do not be discouraged. Do not lose heart. Jesus is working on your behalf in ways you cannot see with your physical eyes. Keep your eyes of faith wide open.
