From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Matthew 4:17 NKJV
Then He said to them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. Matthew 4:19 NKJV
These statements were made by Jesus at the beginning of His Earthly ministry. The phrase “Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” is the same statement used by John the Baptist in Mathew 3:2.
Jesus’ existence did not begin when He came to the earth. The Son of God existed before time began. He stepped out of eternity onto the earth to live as one of His created beings.
John called people to repent and be baptized for the remission of sins. Jesus came to John in the desert to be baptized. Why did Jesus submit to being baptized by John? Jesus gives us the answer. He said, “To fulfill all righteousness.”
When Jesus came up out of the water the Spirit of God descended like a dove and alighted upon Him. Suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
The final preparation before Jesus begins His Earthly ministry was to humble Himself and be baptized by John. God the Father was pleased with Jesus’ act of submission.
God is calling us to follow Him today. He is calling us to serve Him today. He is calling us to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the world today.
Jesus did not come to the Earth to be served. He lived a life of humility and submission.
He is calling us to live in humility and submission to Him today.
Jesus served both God and man by submitting to His father’s will and humbling Himself before the people He created. He is calling us to serve Him by serving His people today. We can be declared righteous through faith in Jesus Christ today!
Jesus came to lead His people out of bondage into the presence of Almighty God. He is calling us to lead people out of bondage into the presence of the Lord today.
In the context of the church, the terms lead and serve are interchangeable.
We cannot serve the Lord without submitting to His will and humbling ourselves before His mighty hand. We can’t lead people to Jesus until we have followed Him.
Serve God in humility and submission. Serve Jesus by serving the people He loves. Jesus wants you a fisher of men, women and children today!
