Remember the prisoners as if chained with them-those who are mistreated-since you yourselves are in the body also. Hebrews 13:3 NKJV
We live in a country where it is unusual to be persecuted to the point of imprisonment. How does this verse apply to us? I worked as a counselor in a prison. The program was designed to help men stay out of prison. My real job was to teach men how to break free from bondage to sin. Most of my clients were repeat offenders. Many of them did not want to change. They gave into the passing pleasures of sin. They have been ensnared by it. Jesus does not want us to turn our backs on people who are suffering the consequences of sin! I will not defend men who plague our cities with crime. I will not say we should open the prison gates and release people who will most likely go back to living the only life they know. Most of the men I worked with grew up without a father. Many were raised in foster care. Some have drug addicted parents. Many are multi-generation gang members. They have been taken captive to wreck destruction on themselves and others. There are others who grew up in Christian homes. They worship the same God we do. They need our encouragement and support. They need our help. God reminds me not to forget those men. He wants me to remember I also struggle with sin. He wants me to join Him as He sets people free from bondage. Jesus wants me join with Him as He restores a world that is under the control of the evil one! Jesus wants you to remember people who have been ensnared by sin and live in bondage. Jesus wants you to remember you live in the flesh and struggle with sin. We all do. The Lord wants you to join with Him as He sets people free from bondage. He wants you to join with Him as He brings restoration to a world that needs healing! Jesus did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance. He did not come to comfort the disturbed only but to disturb the comfortable as well! Jesus wants to wake us from our slumber and stir us into action. He wants to use us to reach the lost the lonely and broken hearted. The Lord wants us to remember people who battle sin and live within the prison walls of their thoughts and deeds! Do what you can right where you are with what you have today. Do you have faith in Jesus? Put it into action. Trust Jesus to send you to the people He came to save! www.joyfor2day.com https://twitter.com/JoyFor2day #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
