And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. John 3:19 NKJV
Jesus never rejected anyone. He never condemned anyone. He pointed out the things that separated people from God. Jesus did speak harshly to the Pharisees. He exposed them for their desire to rule over the people. They appointed themselves the gate keepers of the Kingdom of God while the One who is the Way the Truth and the Life stood before them! It seems like Nicodemus is being courteous and respectful when He refers to Jesus as “Rabbi.” It seems like He is so close to the Kingdom of God when he says, “we know that you are a teacher from God: for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with Him.” By calling Jesus “Rabbi” Nicodemus declared himself Jesus’ equal. Nicodemus was a Pharisee and ruler of the Jews. He was also a Rabbi. Jesus answered Nicodemus by saying, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Jesus also told Nicodemus he is blind to the truth. Later Jesus said, “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes, so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” People who have been born again into the Kingdom of God accept the Lord’s commands without completely understanding them. God’s ways are not our ways. His knowledge is infinite and complete. We see things from a limited perspective. Jesus did not come to condemn the world. He came to save it. People who do not know the Lord condemn themselves by walking in darkness! People want to determine for themselves the difference between right and wrong. God is the creator of Heaven and Earth. He alone can differentiate between good and evil! We condemn ourselves to living less than the abundant life when we choose to walk in darkness rather than the light of God. The Word of God is a lamp unto our feet and a light to our path. Choose to walk in the light of God’s love. Obey the Word of God! Call out to Jesus night and day. Only Jesus can reveal the things that separate us from the richness of God’s grace and mercy. Only Jesus can lead us into the abundant life of God’s kingdom! #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
