Give the king Your judgments, O God, And Your righteousness to the king’s son. He will judge Your people with righteousness, And Your poor with justice. Psalm 72 NKJV Solomon prayed for his son. He asked God to help his son rule with wisdom and justice. When David died Solomon became the king of Israel. One of the first things he did is pray for wisdom to rule over God’s people. It was an honorable request. The Lord answered his prayer. Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived. Solomon’s reign began with so much promise. Over time Solomon began to feed his flesh more than his spirit. He drifted off into a life of vanity. Solomon pursued knowledge riches and pleasure. He forgot the Lord. Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who only does wondrous things! And blessed be His glorious name forever! And let the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen and Amen. Vs 19 The first paragraph of this Psalm focuses on Rehoboam the son of Solomon. Then the psalmist turns his attention to the glory and universal reign of Jesus Christ, the true King of Israel. Like many other kings Rehoboam did not rule in righteousness. He led his people into sin. Did God answer Solomon’s prayer? God’s did not want Israel to be ruled by kings. The Lord wanted Israel to be different than other nations. Israel wanted to be ruled by a king the way surrounding nations were. God granted their request by giving them kings after their own hearts. God promised David, “And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.” God kept His promises to David in Jesus Christ. He is the object of our trust and hope today! God has always appointed leaders over His people. He does not want them to be the object of our trust and hope. None of them will ever rule in righteousness. They will either legislate with compromise or oppress through fear. The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended. Vs 20 David did not stop praying until he died. God wants us to pray all the days of our lives. Pray for your children. Pray for your leaders. Pray fervently for God’s will to be carried out from one corner of creation to the other! Make Jesus Christ the object of your trust and hope. Jesus will rule with perfect justice and wisdom. We will live in eternal peace when Jesus’ throne is established upon the earth! www.joyfor2day.com www.facebook.com/Joyfor2dayDailyDevotional https://twitter.com/JoyFor2day #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
