O God, the nations have come into Your inheritance; Your holy temple they have defiled; They have laid Jerusalem in heaps. Psalm 79:1 NKJV
This is a song of mourning and prayer for Israel which has been destroyed by enemies. God promised Israel they would dwell in the land forever. It would be their inheritance until the end of time. The great city and the temple of God have been destroyed. Did God change His mind? Was He unable to defend His people against the Babylonians? God judged His people for their sins. He sent a prophet to tell them it would happen. Most of them paid no attention when the warning came! How long, Lord? Will You be angry forever? Vs 5 God judged Israel. He punished them. It was a just judgment. It was a harsh punishment. It was exactly what they needed. God always knows what His people need. The timing was perfect. God’s timing always is. Oh, do not remember former iniquities against us! Let Your tender mercies come speedily to meet us, For we have been brought very low. Vs 8 God did not stop loving Israel. He did not give up on them. His judgment was a revelation of their sin. The punishment was designed to correct them. The Lord forgave Israel. He brought them back into the land that would be their inheritance forever! So we, Your people and sheep of Your pasture, Will give You thanks forever: We will show forth Your praise to all generations. Vs 13 Why do God’s people suffer? Jesus promised to be with us. He promised to protect us. Where is Jesus when the lives of our beloved teeter on destruction? Has Jesus changed His mind? Has Jesus gone away and left us to ourselves? Sometimes we make bad decisions. Sometimes Jesus is trying to get our attention. Sometimes Jesus allows the enemy to test us. Jesus gives us what we need when we need it. He always does it at the perfect time! Jesus dwells in the hearts of people who love Him. Jesus fills our homes with His presence. Jesus is within us during hardship trial and pain. Jesus never leaves us! Jesus chose to love us before He put the foundations of the earth in place. The Great Shepherd promises to deliver us safely into the land that will be our eternal inheritance. The season of mourning songs has ended. My heart is full of praise for Almighty God. The words on these pages are my song of praise and worship of Jesus! Give thanks to the God of forgiveness and new beginnings. Show the praise in your heart for all the world to see. Sing your song of praise and worship to Jesus! www.joyfor2day.com www.facebook.com/Joyfor2dayDailyDevotional https://twitter.com/JoyFor2day #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
