The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, with loving-kindness I have drawn you. Jeremiah 31:3 NKJV
God chose Israel to be His beloved. He chose them to be separate from the other nations of the world. God chose them to live with Him in a special loving relationship.
God’s desire from the beginning was to bless protect and provide for Israel. Israel turned away from the Lord. They chose to be like the surrounding nations. They chose to reject God’s love and protection.
God never gave up on the children of Israel. He judged them. He punished them. God did it to draw them back into His loving care and protection. God wanted to draw them back into a special relationship with His loving-kindness.
