Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; So, your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine. Proverbs 3:9-10 NKJV
A new year is upon us. Will it be more of the same? Will the promise of a new beginning bear fruit? Or will we toss wisdom aside and carry our crumbs to bed at night?
World War 2 left millions of orphans in Europe. Some were placed in state run facilities. They were well fed and clothed. Many did not sleep at night. The memory of starvation and deprivation kept them awake.
The children were fed right before bedtime. They still could not sleep. They were given a piece of bread to sleep with. If they ate the piece of bread they were given another. They slept soundly knowing they would have a piece of bread to eat in the morning.
We are not orphans. Our Heavenly Father feeds and clothes us. He does not want to take anything from us. He wants us to honor Him with the best of what He gives us!
The Lord is not offering a bribe. He is giving us an opportunity to partner with Him. Jesus allows us the privilege of participating in His ministry by giving our best to Him!
The bible has more to say about money than any other subject. One of the things it tells us is that it all belongs to God. The Lord created earthly treasure for eternal purposes. The decisions we make with our money have eternal ramifications!
When we honor God with our possessions we become a conduit to meet needs and bring people to faith in Jesus Christ!
We cannot out give God. If we sanctify our purses they will never be empty.
I have seen the Lord do amazing things when I hold onto my money loosely. I have also seen resources dwindle when I live in fear of losing them!
God gives us the freedom to live in fear or walk by faith. We can hide a piece of bread under our pillows at night. Or we can trust Him with our earthly treasure and reap the eternal rewards God is storing up for us in the kingdom of God!
We do not know what the economy will be like in the coming year. God never changes. He is the same yesterday today and tomorrow. Jesus gives wisdom to people who seek it. Jesus draws near people who draw near to Him!
Seek the Lord in 2021. Honor Him with your possessions. Give your best to Almighty God. He gave His best for you!
With great freedom comes great responsibility. Be wise, give everything you own to the Lord. Jesus can take better care of it then you can!
