Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul. And when she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” So she persuaded us. Acts 16:14-15 NKJV
When God opened her heart to the Gospel Lydia and her household were baptized. Lydia set an example of obedience that was followed by her household. Nowhere in the scriptures is there ever any mention of a husband. Lydia persuaded the disciples to come into her home as guests. None of this would be out of the ordinary today. In that culture it was very unusual for a woman to be in such a position of authority. It was unusual for a woman to invite men into her home. God is not a respecter of persons. We are all equal in His eyes. The Lord does appoint leaders in the Body of Christ. He places one person in this position and another person in that position. We are all called to lead people to Jesus! We are all called to be followers of Jesus Christ! We are not called to follow any one person. Christians should never be locked into a designation of either being just followers or just leaders. The bible does not teach authoritarian leadership. The bible teaches servant leadership. In biblical vocabulary the words “leader” and “servant” are synonymous. Jesus said, he who would be the greatest among us must be the servant of all! Maybe you are the Pastor of a church. The Lord is calling you to follow the example of Jesus Christ. Jesus laid down His life for His church. The Lord is calling you to serve Him by serving His people. Are you a new believer? The Lord is calling you to be a leader among His people. The Lord is calling you to lead other people to Jesus Christ. Be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. Lead other people to the Lord by setting an example of obedience to God! This would not be the last time the missionaries would enter Lydia’s home. Paul and Silas went to Lydia’s home when they were released from jail. It was there that they encouraged the brethren before pressing on in their journey. It does not matter if you have been walking with Jesus for decades or got saved yesterday. Jesus can use you to influence people and events to bring glory to God and change the spiritual atmosphere in your corner of the world. Follow Jesus wherever He leads you. Lead people to Jesus through servant leadership! http://www.joyfor2day.com https://twitter.com/JoyFor2day #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
