For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. Ephesians 6:12-18 NKJV
The battles we face are not against people. The opposition we face is spiritual. We have an enemy who seeks to separate us from God’s love. The devil is a spirit being. We must protect ourselves with spiritual weapons. The Lord tells us to put on the full armor of God. What does it mean to put on the full armor of God? How do we put on the full armor of God? We are told to gird our waist with the truth. Put on the breastplate of righteousness. To shod our feet with the preparation of the gospel. Take up the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. Jesus Christ is truth. We can only be declared righteous by faith in Jesus. The gospel is the good news that we can be born again into the Kingdom of God by faith in Jesus. Faith in Jesus shields us against the fiery darts of the evil one. Salvation is found only in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the living Word of God. The armor of God can only be put on through faith in Jesus. Jesus is the full armor of God! We do not put on the armor of God by saying a special prayer a special way. We do not put on the armor of God by claiming or declaring anything. We put on the full armor of God the same way we live the Christian life in a fallen world. We put on the full armor of God by faith in Jesus! We must pray according to God’s will for them to be answered. Prayer must be a lifestyle for it to be continuous. We must stay in step with the Spirit of God for our prayer to be Spirit led.
