Faith in Jesus frees us from sin, shame, and sorrow!

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV

I turned seventeen in a youth detention program. I had earned a weekend furlough. A young man I met was also going on furlough. He asked to meet up with me over the weekend. He was a heroin addict. He wanted me to try the drug. I agreed to meet him.

I waited at the agreed meeting site. He pulled up in a borrowed car. I got in. We drove off in silence. There was madness in his eyes and lead in his foot. He raced around the poorest areas of town, pulled over and passed out. I walked home alone.

Years later I was hurt and angry. I set my heart on sin. Like a lion prowling for prey I hunted. I stood at the doorway of sin and shame. With key in hand I chose to enter in. The door would not open. God intervened. Evil withdrew into the shadows!

In the early days of my new life with Jesus the Lord told me, “My hand has always been upon you”. I realized Jesus had been with me during my darkest days. I am also keenly aware that Jesus has His hand upon me today!

These verses are not a promise to keep you from sin. We all sin. We all make mistakes. We all fail to live up to the righteous standards of a holy God. We will be tempted by sin in many ways as we journey through life in a fallen world clothed in sinful flesh!

These verses do reveal there is nothing new under the sun. Our sinful flesh was conceived in the hearts of Adam and Eve. Our sin is not unique. It is not rare or unusual. It is quite common among our ancestors and children. That is not an excuse for our sin.

These verses reveal the faithfulness of God! Jesus promises to make a way of escape for us when we are tempted by sin!

Our personal experiences do not validate the Word of God! The Lord does use our personal experiences to open our eyes to the validity of His Word!

Through twenty plus years of living in sin and twenty-seven years of walking with Jesus I have learned that even before I am tempted to sin the Lord has already provided an escape hatch for me to flee the darkness and walk in the light of His love!

Jesus makes a way for us to be forgiven of our sin past, present and future! Faith in Jesus frees us from bondage to sin! Faith in Jesus frees us from the shame, and sorrow of walking in darkness!

You do not have to be overcome by the temptations of sin. The Lord will always make a way of escape so you can walk the narrow path of faith in Jesus to the glory that awaits you in the kingdom of a holy, righteous, and faithful God!

Joyfor2day daily devotional goes out over the internet to thousands of people all over the world five days a week

Jesus can use you to shake the foundations of the prison and set people free!

Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune telling. This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out that very hour. Acts 16:16-18 NKJV

The slave girl was speaking the truth. She was possessed by an evil spirit. The evil spirit was drawing people away from Christ!

This attack came as God’s servants went to prayer. The enemy of our souls attacks when we step out in faith. Satan seeks to distract us. He wants us to focus our attention on things other than Jesus.

The devil perverts the truth. He uses it against us. No one can serve two masters. This girl was speaking the truth about Paul and his companions while practicing witchcraft. When people claim to speak for God we must consider how they live.

The girl followed the disciples for several days before they cast the demon out of her. It is important for us to wait on the Lord before stepping out in faith. The bible tells us Paul was greatly annoyed by this girl. Paul was not fearful. The Lord was with Him!

Paul and Silas were put in jail. The owners of the slave girl were angry at the loss of income when the demon was cast out of her. While Paul and Silas were in jail they shared the gospel with the jailer. His entire household was saved.

God uses Satan’s attacks for His glory and our salvation!

Satan is a real being. He takes people captive to do his will. There really are demons who seek to destroy God’s people and bring destruction to our world.

We have nothing to fear from the devil or his demons when we live according to God’s will. We have nothing to fear from anyone or anything when we step out in faith to serve Jesus!

Jesus wants us to fear Him and Him alone. He wants us to know His power and authority are unequaled in all of creation.

God wants you share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the people in your life. Jesus wants you to walk in great boldness because He is with you everywhere you go!

Jesus can use you to shake the foundations of the prison and set people free!
