A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord.  And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.”

So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?”
And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”

Then he said, “Go borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors-empty vessels; do not gather just a few. And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels and set aside the full ones.”

So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out. Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another vessel,” So the oil ceased.

Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.” 2 Kings 4:1-7 NKJV

The only thing this widow was asked to do was take a small step of faith. God provided for her needs in a miraculous way. He multiplied her meager resources so her family would not be separated.

She was not told to say a special prayer. She was not told God would help her if she had enough faith. She was told to do what she could and trust God to do what she could not.

God is speaking to us today. He is saying do what you can and trust me to do what you can’t. God knows your needs better than you do. He wants you to trust Him with your resources and needs. He wants you to trust Him with your greatest dreams and desires.

Our relationships are important to Jesus. He provided this miracle so the widow would not be separated from her sons. She had already lost her husband. The Lord in His compassion and mercy did not want her to lose the children she loved so deeply!

Jesus can use the current financial crisis to unite families separated by the fast pace of life. Jesus can us the pandemic to bring healing and restoration to families separated by anger resentment and unforgiveness.

The oil represents the Holy Spirit. Jesus wants us to pour the little we have into other vessels. He will multiply the oil if we continue to pour out our faith into others!

Jesus wants us to be disciple makers. How can you be a disciple maker? Step out in faith. Do what you can to teach others and trust Jesus to do what you cannot.

Money is not the treasure we believe it is. Time is the greatest resource God has entrusted to us. Do not waste it. Invest it in godly relationships that will bless you and the people you love, give glory to God and lead others to faith in Jesus Christ!

Joyfor2day daily devotional goes out over the internet to thousands of people all over the world five days a week

Jesus can use you to shake the foundations of the prison and set people free!

Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune telling. This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out that very hour. Acts 16:16-18 NKJV

The slave girl was speaking the truth. She was possessed by an evil spirit. The evil spirit was drawing people away from Christ!

This attack came as God’s servants went to prayer. The enemy of our souls attacks when we step out in faith. Satan seeks to distract us. He wants us to focus our attention on things other than Jesus.

The devil perverts the truth. He uses it against us. No one can serve two masters. This girl was speaking the truth about Paul and his companions while practicing witchcraft. When people claim to speak for God we must consider how they live.

The girl followed the disciples for several days before they cast the demon out of her. It is important for us to wait on the Lord before stepping out in faith. The bible tells us Paul was greatly annoyed by this girl. Paul was not fearful. The Lord was with Him!

Paul and Silas were put in jail. The owners of the slave girl were angry at the loss of income when the demon was cast out of her. While Paul and Silas were in jail they shared the gospel with the jailer. His entire household was saved.

God uses Satan’s attacks for His glory and our salvation!

Satan is a real being. He takes people captive to do his will. There really are demons who seek to destroy God’s people and bring destruction to our world.

We have nothing to fear from the devil or his demons when we live according to God’s will. We have nothing to fear from anyone or anything when we step out in faith to serve Jesus!

Jesus wants us to fear Him and Him alone. He wants us to know His power and authority are unequaled in all of creation.

God wants you share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the people in your life. Jesus wants you to walk in great boldness because He is with you everywhere you go!

Jesus can use you to shake the foundations of the prison and set people free!
