He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust. Psalm 91:1-2 NKJV
My father was an outdoorsman. He loved traveling. He went scuba diving in the Honduras. He surfed in Hawaii. He learned to play tennis in Australia. He bought his first camera in Hong Kong. My father never went to Africa. We arranged for him to have his picture taken with an African elephant. My father was frail and weak. He was in a wheel chair. We placed him under a bull elephant. Dad enjoyed his time in the shadow of Butch the African Elephant. We took a picture of him there. It is one of my favorite pictures of my father. I see it as an example of abiding under the shadow of the Almighty! We are frail and weak. Jesus gives us a place where we can rest in safety. It is in His mighty presence. It is under the covering of His love and blessing. It is under His authority that we experience peace and protection. The elephant handler put a carrot in my father’s pocket. Butch searched for it with his trunk. He was otherwise uninterested in my father. Jesus is infinitely more powerful than any creature. He does not look for what he can receive from us. Jesus does not necessarily look to give us things. He looks for ways to bless us. The greatest blessing is to be in Jesus’ presence. You do not have to wait to experience God’s presence. Jesus wants you to experience the joy that comes from spending time with Him today. We can become so busy doing the work of ministry we do not allow Jesus to minister to us. You may be doing your best to serve God but something is missing. You have allowed your busy schedule to interfere with what God wants the most. He wants to spend time with you. Jesus is waiting to show you how much He loves you! Satan is like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. If we turn to Jesus in our time of trial and testing, if we will make Him our place of safety, our refuge and fortress, He will protect us! Take time out from your busy schedule to spend time with Jesus today. Turn to the Lord with whatever is on your heart today. Allow Jesus to minister to you today. Ask Jesus to break down barriers that separate you from the sweetness of His love! www.joyfor2day.com www.facebook.com/Joyfor2dayDailyDevotional https://twitter.com/JoyFor2day #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
