Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, To sit up late, To eat the bread of sorrows; For so He gives His beloved sheep. Psalm 127 NKJV
The psalmist stresses the futility of human endeavors without God’s blessing. The people of the earth came together and said, “Come let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.” And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not be able to understand one another’s speech.” So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city. Building a city with a tower that reached to the heavens was an offense to God. They were motivated by pride and a desire to stand before God as equals. They wanted to make a name for themselves rather than lift up the Name of the Lord! Two people can set their hands to the same task. One can be a form of worship, a labor of love for Jesus. The other an idolatrous act of self-will and pride! There is nothing wrong with working hard to accomplish our dreams if we seek God and His blessing. When we walk closely with Jesus He puts desires in our hearts. Jesus gives us the strength, wisdom and favor to accomplish them for His glory and honor. All the gold, silver and treasure of this world belong to Almighty God. He does with them as He pleases. It is foolish to spend the little time we have ignoring God’s greatest gifts, loving relationships with Him and the people Jesus brings into our lives! Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Vs 3 It is our families that suffer the most when we seek after the wind. We will look back and grieve the time we spent seeking money when true treasure could be found in our homes! Commit all you do to Jesus and He will bless all you put your hand to do! If you made the mistake of overworking to get rich it is not too late. Fall on your knees. Ask God to bring healing and restoration into your life! God is not a party pooper. The Lord wants to bless you with godly relationships that will follow you into eternity. Ask Jesus to put His desires in your heart. Trust Jesus to bring those desires into a reality that glorifies His holy name and blesses the people you love! www.joyfor2day.com https://twitter.com/JoyFor2day #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
