Thus, says the Lord: Heaven is My throne, And earth is my footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest? Isaiah 66:1 NKJV
I have heard people say God lives in one place or another. Some say life began on this planet when cosmic germs where deposited here from other places in the universe.
The popular theory among people who deny biblical doctrine is that a great explosion created the universe. Some people still believe mankind evolved from apes.
God created the heavens and the earth. The Lord created us in His image and likeness!
God does not need to lay His head down at night. He is not limited to one location at a time. God says heaven is His throne. The Earth is His footstool.
Imagine God sitting on His throne in heaven. His feet upon the earth. The Spirit of God fills every area of creation. God is everywhere all the time.
The bible does say there is one place where God chooses to take up residence. He chooses to dwell in the hearts of men and women who live by faith in Jesus Christ. God chooses to dwell with His people. Jesus chooses to live out His life in us and through us.
God loves all people. He does not want anyone to spend even one more day in bondage to sin. Jesus does not want anyone to spend one more day in bondage to unbelief!
Jesus is saving people today. He is bringing people back into His good and perfect will. Jesus is bringing people out of bondage to unbelief. Jesus is setting captives free.
Jesus is holding out His hand to you today. He is calling you to join Him in His work!
God can do great and mighty things in the lives of ordinary men and women. He can do great and mighty things in your life and with your life!
Will you call out to Jesus today? Will you ask the Lord to use you to share the message of life with people who are dead in trespasses and sins?
God does not expect you to do anything on your own. Jesus wants to set up His throne in your heart. Jesus wants to form His life in you and live out His life through you today!
The Lord’s throne is in the heavens. The earth is His footstool. The Spirit of God rests upon all people who choose to live for Jesus!
Will you give Jesus a place to take up residence today? Will you open your heart so Jesus can dwell in the innermost parts of your eternal soul?
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6 NKJV
David’s declaration of faith in God’s goodness reveals the desire of his heart.
God blessed David. That does not mean he did not struggle. His life was full of conflict. David made mistakes. He sinned. It was a measure of his faith that he never wavered in his belief that the goodness and mercy of God would follow him all the days of his life.
David did not judge the goodness and mercy of God by his circumstances. God is perfect and holy. Our circumstances do not affect Him in anyway shape or form. If our circumstances affected Jesus He could not rule over creation in perfect wisdom and justice.
Are you a born-again disciple of Jesus Christ? If so the goodness and mercy of God will follow you all the days of your life.
Do not judge God by your circumstances. Your circumstances do not affect God’s holiness and perfection. God loves you so much your sins failures and mistakes cannot separate you from His love and favor!
The things David wrote have been used in songs sermons prayers and poems for centuries. The description of David being a person after God’s own heart should encourage us in our faith.
David allowed God to give him His heart. David allowed the Lord to fill his mind with God’s wisdom and desires. Nothing could stop David from seeking after the Lord. His sins and failures did not keep David from desiring intimate relationship with God.
David never called himself a man after God’s own heart. God did. David never attributed God’s favor to anything he could do in his own strength and wisdom.
David attributed the Lord’s favor on his life to the goodness and mercy of God. The reality of God’s goodness and mercy is the reason David desired to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of his life!
We can have the desire to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of our lives! We can believe the goodness and mercy of God will follow us all the days of our lives!
Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. Jesus will give us what we need when we need it to serve Him. Give Jesus something to work with. Give Jesus your heart so He can fill your heart with faith in God!
Trust in the goodness and mercy of God. Set the desire of your heart on dwelling in the house of the Lord forever!
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Psalm 23:5 NKJV
From one man who had the faith to believe God the Lord raised up a great nation. In a time of famine God led them to a land of plenty. When the nation God used to provide for His people turned against them the Lord led Israel into the land of promise.
When Israel cried out for a king God gave them a man after their own hearts. When the king filled his heart with pride God chose a man of humility. The Lord gave king David victory over His enemies.
God’s enemies were David’s enemies. David never claimed victory in his own name. He never took hold of God’s glory. David fought Israel’s enemies in the strength and name of Almighty God. David fought for the glory and honor of Almighty God!
The Jewish people have been despised throughout history. They have been surrounded by enemies on all sides. Israel has been attacked by armies more numerous time and time again. The Jewish people prosper. They prosper because God is with them!
God used David to mock His enemies. When David went out to meet Goliath the mighty giant said, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks? Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field.”
David replied, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of Hosts; the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know there is a God in Israel.”
The boy who would grow into a man after God’s own heart mocked the giant by turning his threat against him. God anointed David to be king over His people. He blessed David. God gave David what he needed when he needed it to serve the Lord!
God wants to use you to mock His enemies today. God has anointed you to be a leader among His people today. It is Jesus who blesses you and gives you what you need when you need it to serve the Lord. Serve Jesus with the boldness that threatens His enemies!
You will never have to fight a giant man of war. You will face giant obstacles in your walk of faith. You will not have to face them alone. Jesus will give you victory so that all the earth will know there is a God in heaven.
Fight your battle of faith in the strength and might of Jesus Christ. Fight in faith for the glory and honor of Jesus mighty name!
Soon all the world will know there is a God in heaven. Soon everyone will know His name is Jesus!
Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk in it, Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left. Isaiah 30:21 NKJV
God is the same yesterday today and tomorrow. The Lord never changes.
God desired intimate relationship with Adam and Eve. He spoke to Abraham and led Him to a land He did not know. God delivered the children of Israel from bondage in Egypt. The Great I Am led Israel through the dessert into the Promised Land.
Jesus lived among His disciples and taught them. He met Paul on the road to Damascus.
Jesus wants to live in intimate relationship with you today. Jesus will lead you and guide you in the way you should go today!
I am struggling to focus on the goodness and mercy of God today. I am having a difficult time waiting for the Lord today. I do not feel like God’s favorite child today.
Our circumstances do not change God’s character. God is the same yesterday today and tomorrow. Jesus knows we will have good days and bad days. Jesus wants us to trust Him all the time with everything!
God’s promise to lead us and guide us in the direction we should go is for the mountain tops strolls of life as much as it is for our trudge through the valley of weeping and mourning!
You may be physically, emotionally, or financially struggling today. Maybe it has been a long struggle. Maybe somebody you love has hurt you. You may have lost a job or even someone you love. God has not left you. He has not abandoned you.
The God who hung the stars in the night sky and calls them all by name knows your name. Call out to Him. Share the anguish of your soul with Him!
If you are strolling along the mountain tops of life call out to Jesus. Praise Him for His goodness and mercy. Praise Him for His blessings. Praise Jesus for the love He so freely lavishes on people who trust Him!
Call out to the Lord regardless of your circumstances. Jesus wants to love you right where you are today.
If you listen God will speak to you. Jesus will tell you where to go, where to turn and when to stop and be still!
Turn to the Lord for guidance. Trust Jesus to lead you and guide you on your walk of faith. Jesus will be with you all the days of your life. Jesus will lead you safely into the loving arms of your Heavenly Father!
He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Psalm 23:3 NKJV
Faith is a wondrous gift given to people who choose it. The Father of Lights freely gives faith without finding fault or respecting one person more than another. There is no work required to receive God’s gift of faith. There are choices to be made.
Jesus promised we would have tribulation in this world. It is just as true and reliable as His promise never to leave us nor forsake us. Jesus also said, “Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
We will all suffer broken hearts. We will all experience anguish in our souls. We will all have seasons of weeping and sorrow. Darkness may hang over us like a dreadful day without sunshine. Weeping may endure for a night. We can receive joy in the morning.
We receive joy the same way we receive salvation, by faith!
The Lord restores my soul. He does it daily. He restores my soul by reminding me that He is with me. God’s love surrounds me. He is my beloved Father. I am His beloved son! Jesus does not necessarily give me the faith I need for tomorrow.
Righteousness is also a gift Jesus gives to people who choose to it. You cannot earn it, steal it, or buy it. It can only be given to us by the One who is righteous!
Only Jesus can lead us in paths of righteousness. Jesus leads us in paths of righteousness for His own glory. Jesus leads us in paths of righteousness because His heart is filled with love for us.
David knew righteousness is not a license to sin. David knew his sins did not separate him from God’s leadership into paths of righteousness. Do you?
Many of us carry the burden of pain and sorrow. I do. My heart is broken. My soul is grieved. Jesus restores my soul as often as it needs restoring.
God’s grace is stronger than my grief. His mercy is greater than my mistakes and failures. God’s love conquers my fear. I hang on to Jesus’ promises as if my life depends on them because it does!
You may be carrying the burden of pain and sorrow. Your heart may be broken. Your soul may be grieved. Ask Jesus to restore your soul. Ask Jesus to lead you into paths of righteousness.
Jesus will answer with grace that is stronger than your grief and mercy that is greater than your mistakes and failures. Jesus will answer with love that conquers your fears!
Hang on to the Lord’s promises as if your spiritual life depends on them, because it does!
But now thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you O Israel: Fear not for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are mine. Isaiah 43:1 NKJV
Behold I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth, Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness, And rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19 NKJV
God comforted Israel. He revealed Himself as God in the heavens above and on the earth below. He wanted Israel to know He created them to live in relationship with Him.
God told the Israelites, “You are Mine, Fear not I have redeemed you.” The Children of Israel fell short of the call to be a special people holy and set apart for God. The Lord rescued them. He brought them back into His will and blessing.
God is speaking these same words to you today. Do Not Be Fearful. God has redeemed you. He has called you by your name. Jesus is doing new things in the lives of people who are called by His name today.
God tells not to be fearful because our world is full of danger. The fast pace of life, increasing knowledge and continuously evolving technology produce fears that were unknown to our ancestors. Jesus is neither surprised nor perplexed by them.
Walk in humility before Jesus. Live out loud. Be bold as you journey through this world.
Jesus will make a road for you through the wilderness of doubt and unbelief. Jesus will make rivers of living water well up within the dry places of your heart!
The God who hung the stars in the night sky and calls them all by name has given you His name. You bear the name of Christ because the stamp of His image and likeness is on you!
In biblical times names were significant. They revealed a person’s character. They represented heritage and family history. They could even be prophetic.
Jacob did not change His name to Israel God did. Jesus will give you a new name in eternity.
To those who overcome this world God will give a precious white stone. On it will be a new name that no one knows. It will be a name so special it can only be revealed to people who know the love of Christ!
Do not be deceived. It was Almighty God who created you and formed you. Do not be afraid of anyone or anything. Jesus bought you back from the kingdom of darkness. Jesus knows the name He will give you because you are His. Jesus loves you!
Jesus is doing a new thing in your life even now. Ask the Lord to reveal it to you!
And I shall not hide My face from them anymore: for I shall have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel;” says the Lord God. Ezekiel 39:29 NKJV
God chose Israel to be set apart for Him. He chose Israel to live in a special relationship with Him. Israel disobeyed God. They rebelled against Him. Israel served false god’s. They worshiped idols. God never stopped loving Israel. He never gave up on them.
God told Israel He would love them regardless of their sin. God would reveal Himself to them. The Lord would pour out His Spirit upon them. Israel will love honor and worship their God.
God told the children of Israel He would forgive their sins. He would bless them. He would protect them. They would live in a special set apart relationship with God in this age and throughout eternity in the age to come!
God is saying the same things to us today. We failed to live up to the righteous standards of our God. Jesus does not want us to be separated from Him. Jesus wants us to live in a special set apart relationship with Him today and throughout eternity!
We have been forgiven of our sins. God will make His face shine upon us. He will pour out His Spirit upon us. Jesus will receive the glory praise and honor He deserves from us.
We will love Jesus just as we were created to love Him. We will receive His blessing and protection. We will live in a special set apart relationship with Jesus in this age and throughout eternity in the age to come!
God will bless us if we receive His salvation. God will do all the work. He does require something of us. The Lord requires that we accept the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ for our sin.
The Lord wants us to admit that we deserve the just punishment for turning away from Him. He wants us to accept that Jesus took the punishment we deserve!
If you are not sure that you have received God’s forgiveness you can be. Ask Jesus to forgive you of every sin you ever committed. Surrender your life to Jesus. Ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior today!
Ask Jesus to make you a new creation. Ask Him not to hide His face from you. Ask Jesus to pour out His Spirit upon you. Ask the Lord not to leave you to yourself!
Give Jesus a chance to convince you beyond all doubt He is the Lord your God!
The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want Psalm 23:1 NKJV
A wandering tribe became a great nation. A warrior king conquered his enemies. He vanquished his foes. Feeding his fleshly desires brought pain and heartache to David and the children of Israel.
When David walked in humility God met his needs. When David wrote Psalm 23 his mind was not on fleshly desires. His heart was steadfastly on the Lord. David knew he had needs only God could meet. David knew God would provide everything he needed.
When the desire of his heart was to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of his life David wanted for nothing. We can choose to let God meet our needs today or we can feed our flesh and bring pain and heartache into our homes and communities!
He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. Vs 2
In green pastures sheep can rest from foraging between rocks for dry stubble. Their hooves are not cut and pricked by the jagged rocks of dry places. They can lay down in comfort to rest and rise to feed in a place of plenty.
Sheep are easily frightened. Rushing waters scare them. Their wool soaks up water and makes them vulnerable to drowning. The noise of rushing waters makes it easier for predators to sneak up on them. Still waters provide a refreshing drink with less danger.
The children of Israel took great care of their sheep. Their flocks were a measure of financial health and responsible living. As a shepherd in Israel David took his sheep into green pastures. He led them beside still waters.
David knew the blessedness of trusting God to lead him into places where he could rest in peace and safety. David was a lamb in God’s flock all the days of his life. David trusted and loved the Great Shepherd of His soul.
Jesus is my Great Shepherd. He meets all my needs. He gives me peace and calms my heart in times of trial and trouble. I can have joy and be assured of the Lord’s blessing and protection today even though I do not know what tomorrow may bring.
Jesus gives me a place where I can rest in prosperity of spirit. I can partake of the Lord’s blessing in safety. Jesus prepares me to face the rushing waters of heartache and sorrow because my future is secure. I will dwell in the House of the Lord all the days of my life!
There is a place where your soul can be refreshed in peace and safety. You can partake of God’s blessings today through faith in Jesus. The Good Shepherd will lead you into the green pastures that await you in eternity!
If you trust Jesus with your life goodness and mercy will always be upon you!
Thus, says the Lord, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer, the Lord of Hosts: I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God. Isaiah 44:6 NKJV
Do not fear, nor be afraid; Have I not told you from that time, and declared it? You are My witnesses. Is there a God besides Me? Indeed, there is no other Rock; I know not one. Isaiah 44:8 NKJV
God created the heavens and the earth. Nothing can exist apart from the giver of life.
God identified Himself as the King of Israel. He did not call Himself the King of Babylon, the King of Egypt, nor the King of Assyria. He chose Israel over the great and powerful nations that ruled the world. The Lord chose Israel to be His special possession!
A king not only assumes authority over his people but responsibility for them.
Today God is speaking to you. He is saying “you are Mine. I Am the First and the Last. I created all things. All things exist in Me and because of Me. I am Your King!
I created you to live in a special relationship with Me. Our relationship is based on My great love for you. I have called you to be my witness. I have called you to testify of my great love for my people!”
A man at the prison where I worked told me he did not feel his life had value. Every time he was released he went back to using drugs. His drug use led him back to prison. I asked him if he knew how an items value is determined. He did not know.
An items value is determined by what another person is willing to give for it. I told him his life is so valuable God sacrificed His One and Only Son for him. In God’s eyes you are a treasure whose value is beyond measure!
Do you know how much God loves you? God has given His best to bring you back into a loving relationship with Him. Jesus will continue to move heaven and Earth to draw you ever closer to Him.
How will you respond to the Lord’s sacrifice for you? How will you respond to His great love for you? Will you value your relationship with Jesus as much as He does?
A witness can only testify to what he or she knows first-hand. It cannot be heresy, rumor, or second-hand information. Call out to the Jesus. Ask Him to show you how much He loves you. Show Jesus how much you love Him!
There is no other God besides Jesus. He is the King of heaven and earth. Jesus paid the ransom to redeem you from sin and death. Jesus did it because He loves you!
Do not be afraid to declare your faith in Jesus Christ. God put you on the earth at this time in His-story to be a witness and testify that there is no other Rock to stand upon!
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. Psalm 23 NKJV
This is the famous Psalm of David. For many of us it is a favorite passage of scripture. It is biblical literature at its best. It is a beautiful poem and song. For David it was reality.
David was a Shepherd. He became the leader of his people. David was a lamb in God’s flock. He looked to his great and merciful Shepherd to meet his needs. God referred to David as a man after His own heart.
David sinned against God and his people. David did not avoid judgment and punishment. He knew the depths of God’s grace and mercy. He continued to seek and serve the Lord. David knew God is righteous and just. He knew God brings correction to restore us.
David trusted in the grace and mercy of God. He knew God desires relationship with His people above all things. Christianity is not a religion. It is a relationship with the Great Shepherd and Lover of Our Souls.
You and I sin. It is part of the human experience. Do not avoid God’s judgment. Trust in the Lord’s grace and mercy. Continue to seek and serve Jesus. He is just and righteous. He corrects us because He loves us. Jesus uses His rod and staff to restore us!
David wrote these beautiful words because God’s love impacted Him in such a powerful way he needed an outlet to express it.
David was not writing a song or a poem. He was glorifying God. He may have intended to simply state the facts but was overcome with the reality of God’s love. God loved David. David knew it!
The God who loves David loves you. Jesus desires relationship with you above all things. Let God’s love sink deep down into your soul. Jesus wants you to be so impacted by His love you need an outlet to express it. Jesus wants you to share His love with others!
The Great Shepherd meets our needs. Jesus gives us a place to rest in the safety of His love. Jesus leads us into the still waters of peace. Jesus restores our souls with His forgiveness and mercy. Jesus leads us into paths of righteousness for His namesake!
Goodness and mercy follows people who join with the flock of the Great Shepherd. People who love and trust Jesus will live in His Father’s house forever. Each room in the Father’s house is filled with love laughter and blessed perfection. Reserve yours today!
