Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! Psalms 46:10 NKJV
In the book of Psalms God uses a literary style known as contrast to make a point and teach truth. The Lord tells us about the blessings that are in store for the Godly and the obedient. He gives us the contrasting truth of living in wickedness and ungodliness. What is the contrasting lifestyle of God’s instruction to be still and know that I am God? It is restlessness and discontent worry and scheming. It is living on the edge. It is the need for constant excitement and incessant stimulation. It is chasing after material things and needs that can never be met outside of a loving relationship with Jesus. That lifestyle can lead to drug addiction alcoholism sexual immorality and many other destructive behaviors. Jesus wants us to rest our bodies and minds. He wants us to be still and trust Him with our lives. Jesus wants us to know He is in control of all things. Life requires action. The most effective action we can take is trusting Jesus! How will God be exalted among the nations? How will God be exalted in the earth? God will be exalted and glorified by the great and mighty works He accomplishes in us and through us! God is saving people. He is restoring broken hearts and lives marriages and families. God is bringing people out of bondage to unbelief. God is using the people He heals and restores to bring other people into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ! I met a man who was a missionary in Central Asia. He could not even disclose his exact location because he lived in an environment hostile to Christianity and Americans. When he moved there the darkness was overwhelming. The people had no hope or love. Today there is a thriving Christian Church in that formerly godless nation. God is adding to their numbers. That is how God is exalted among the nations and in the Earth! God is in total control of all things. That does not mean everything that happens is God’s will. It means God can and will use everything that happens to accomplish His will. Jesus wants us to trust Him with our lives, our families and our futures. Be still and know that Jesus is God! www.joyfor2day.com www.facebook.com/Joyfor2dayDailyDevotional https://twitter.com/JoyFor2day #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
