“Behold, God works all these things, Twice, in fact, three times with a man, To bring back his soul from the Pit, That he may be enlightened with the light of life.” Job 33:29-30 NKJV
Jesus calls men to repentance in a variety of ways! Elihu says God may speak to men in one way, or another, but men do not recognize his voice. God may speak to people in a dream or vision of the night. He opens up our ears and instructs us to turn us from evil. He strips away our pride. Elihu goes on to say God chastens people with pain so severe it steals away the sweetness of life, or worse, we may actually despise our lives. That is not a very encouraging word. It does not seem to be what Job needs to hear at this point in his life. Elihu does not end there. He goes on to declare God does these things for our own good. That is very encouraging. Job did not to hear that! The Lord speaks to us in a variety of different ways today. He speaks to us through the circumstances of life. He speaks to us through other people. He speaks to us through our thoughts and emotions. Jesus speaks to us through the bible! The Lord is always trying to get our attention. He is always calling us to repentance because we all struggle with sin. Sin is anything that misses the mark of total submission to God’s will! God speaks to me in a variety of ways every day. The ground does not shake. Lightning does not flash from the sky. Jesus brings things to my memory and puts thoughts in my mind. He tells me what to write down. We have been doing this together for twelve years. The Lord first spoke to me when I was sixteen years old. Jesus wanted me to surrender my life to Him. I did not. Sixteen years later my sin was in full bloom. I suffered the consequences of sinful living. I answered God’s call to repent. I was so blessed that day I cried tears of joy. I am blessed today! Is Jesus trying to get your attention? Have you ignored His call to repent or step out in faith in some way? Don’t wait. Do it today! Jesus blesses us when He whispers into our ears. He blesses us when He speaks loudly through the circumstances of life. Stop and be still before the Lord! Ask Jesus to open your ears so you can hear His voice! http://www.joyfor2day.com https://twitter.com/JoyFor2day #Joyfor2daydailydevotional
