And when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. 1 Corinthians 11:24-25 NKJV
My second youngest son was the baby of our family. He was the only unsaved member of our family. He was the only one of our children who did not partake of communion. I began to sense God was using the Lord’s Supper to draw Him to Jesus.
One Sunday as the elements were passed out I asked if he was ready to give his heart to Jesus. He said he was. We walked outside and prayed together. He received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior!
Years later my father was suffering from ALS. He was dying and he knew it. We invited him to our youngest son’s baptism. Tears were streaming down his face. The Lord was tenderizing his heart. A short time later he surrendered his heart and life to Jesus!
Jesus commands us to partake of communion in remembrance of Him. As often as we do it we proclaim His death until Jesus comes again.
The Lord’s Supper is a public declaration of what Jesus has done for us. It is a witness and testimony of what He will do for other people!
Do not underestimate the testimony you give when you partake of communion. It is a witness because people are watching. It is a powerful testimony because the Holy Spirit is present when we come to the Lord’s Table in faith!
Do not forsake the gathering of the brethren as some are in the habit of doing. Gather together with God’s people. Partake of His Body and blood by faith. Do it in remembrance of Jesus. Proclaim His death burial and resurrection in faith until Jesus returns for His church!
Stand up as a witness and testify to what Jesus has done for you whenever you can!
Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophesy of this book. Revelation 22:7 NKJV
God speaks to us through the bible. His message is very clear. Jesus Christ is coming soon!
The bridegroom is coming for His bride. Jesus is coming to take His beloved to live with Him forever!
The Lord wants us to keep the words of the prophecy given to us in the bible. What does keep the words of the prophecy of this book mean?
God wants us to be convinced the bible reveals God’s nature and character. He wants us know the bible reveals who we are in Christ. God wants us to know the instruction and promises in the bible are for us today. The bible reveals God’s great love for us!
We should do what the bible tells us to do. We should not do the things the bible tells us not to do!
I heard a man say the foundation of God’s church should be prayer. I heard another group of people say the priority of the church should be worship.
God does want us to take everything to Him in prayer. The Word of God tells us how important it is for us to pray. The Word of God teaches us how to pray.
Worshiping God is a great blessing and privilege. God wants us to worship Him in spirit and truth. The Word of God tells us God inhabits the praises of His people.
Jesus Christ is the Word of God!
When God tells us to keep the words of the prophecy of this book He is saying the Word of God should be the foundation of our lives!
Do you want to hear from the Lord today? Do you want God to lead you and guide you today?
Open up your bible. Let God speak to you today!
Keep the prophesies found in the Word of God. Remember the day of the Lord’s return draws nearer and nearer every day!
He will again have compassion on us, And will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. Micah 7:19 NKJV
The book of Micah was written to warn God’s people of coming judgment and to offer hope based on the mercy of God.
I was reminded of the 911 attacks. I was still in bed when the phone rang that morning. My wife was leading our church prayer chain. We received a call to pray for our country. Our nation was under attack. We were at war!
In the days that followed I heard people say God was judging our nation.
People said God was pouring out His wrath on our country. I heard people say God was bringing the United States of America to its knees. People said it could be the beginning of the end for America.
The United States of America has turned its back on God.
We have taken God out of our classrooms. We have said in our hearts and public forums what God calls evil is good. We have rejected God’s authority by deciding for ourselves what is good and what is evil. It is the same sin committed by Adam and Eve.
We deserve God’s judgment. We have become an ungodly nation!
The people of Israel in Micah’s day deserved God’s judgment and wrath. God chose to forgive their sin. He chose to love them. God’s heart was for the people of Israel not against them!
We do not know what the future holds for our nation. We do know God loves us!
We know God wants to bless us. Jesus wants us to trust Him to teach us the difference between good and evil. Jesus wants us to trust Him to guide us and direct us as we navigate our way through life.
If we incline our hearts to Jesus He will incline His heart toward us. If we draw near the Lord He will draw near to us!
Pray for revival in the hearts of God’s people. Pray for revival in your community. Pray for revival in our nation and the world. Ask Jesus to put His desires in your heart so just as the prophets of old you can stand in the gap for His people.
Stand in the gap for the people God loves today. Call on the Lord to show His compassion and mercy for His people. Ask the Lord to subdue our iniquity today.
If you have put on a crown of sinful self-will or idolatrous self-glorification take it off. Cast it at the feet of Jesus. God has already cast your sin into the depths of the sea. The Lord will pour out His love and compassion on you!
Therefore, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; My God will hear me. Micah 7:7 NKJV
The Lord is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him. Nahum 1:7 NKJV
I came upon these two verses of scripture this morning. They are in different books. The first is in the last chapter of Micah. The second is in the first chapter of Nahum.
God used these two verses of scripture to show me His Word is woven together in an intricate tapestry of divine revelation. The Word of God is a beautiful mosaic designed to enlighten and encourage us!
I read the first verse. I was encouraged to look to the Lord. I was encouraged to wait for God to deliver me from my circumstances. I was reminded God does hear my voice when I cry out to Him.
The second verse was a confirmation of the first.
Jesus is good. His presence is a place of safety for me. I stand before Him both night and day. Jesus knows I trust Him. Jesus knows He is my hope and strength. I look to Jesus when I am in need regardless of what the need is.
A friend of mine says; “We must labor to rest.” What does that mean?
It means trusting God is not always easy. It is not always easy because we are bombarded with distractions and lies. We need to be deliberate in seeking God. We need to be steadfast in trusting Jesus with our lives. We should consistently seek the encouragement of God’s Word.
Jesus is not a respecter of persons.
My God delivers me in my time of need. He will deliver you in your time of need. Jesus is a stronghold in my day of trouble. He can be a stronghold for you in your day of trouble.
Jesus hears me when I cry out to Him. Jesus will hear you if you cry out to Him. My God knows I trust Him. He knows if you trust Him.
Jesus opens-up His Word and speaks to me. Jesus will open-up His Word and speak to you.
Let the Word of God dwell richly in your heart today. Labor to rest in the grace of God every day!
He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8 NKJV
God is just in all His ways. He is merciful, compassionate and longsuffering. These are unchanging aspects of God’s character.
How does Jesus demonstrate these characteristics of justice and mercy today? He demonstrates them through His relationship with us. Every decision God makes is just and passes through the filter of His love and mercy toward us.
God created us in His image and likeness. He created us to reflect His character and we (mankind), failed. Adam failed to live His life the way God intended for him to live. He failed to obey God. Adam listened to the lies of the evil one. But that is not the end of the story!
Jesus Christ humbled Himself. He came to the earth to live the life of a man. He gave Himself as a sacrifice for our sins. He took the punishment for the sins committed by us upon Himself. God the Father raised Jesus from the dead to show that our sin debt was paid in full!
God wants us to humble ourselves. How does He want us to humble ourselves? He wants us to humble ourselves by laying down our lives the way Jesus did. The Lord wants us to put to death the selfish life we crave. Jesus wants to live His life through us today!
Jesus showed us how He wants us to live out our lives. The choice is ours. We can live in relationship with Jesus today or separated from Him. We can participate in the work Jesus is doing among us today or turn a blind eye to it.
We can go out into the harvest field knowing that Jesus is right beside us to serve God or lead other people into the darkness of sinful living!
Justice comes at a price. Jesus paid it. The mercy of God is available to the greatest of sinners through faith in Jesus. The Lord of heaven and earth draws near to the meek, the mild, the contrite and people who humble themselves before His mighty hand!
The Lord created us in His image and likeness for a reason. God wants to mold us and shape us into the image of our Lord and Savior. Transformation is a process not an event. It is a process that should begin right here right now!
Jesus has shown you what He requires of you today. The Lord wants you to be just in your dealings with others, to love mercy enough to extend it the way Jesus does and to walk humbly before your God by laying down your life to serve Him!
If you want to be like Jesus you must embrace justice, love mercy and walk humbly before your God. Ask the Lord of the harvest to help you be more like Jesus today!
He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8 NKJV
This verse of scripture is not difficult to understand. It does not take a Pastor Priest or Theologian to reveal the great mystery found in it.
God reveals what is good in the bible. The Lord wants us to embrace justice in all we do. He wants us to love mercy. God expects us to walk humbly with Jesus today.
Most people want justice to prevail. We all want to be treated mercifully. The Lord expects us to treat other people justly. There are times when Jesus expects us to surrender our right to receive justice.
Jesus does not want us to get angry and retaliate when people treat us unjustly. The Lord wants us to forgive people when they are not merciful towards us. Jesus expects us to humble ourselves just as He did when He was denied justice and mercy at the cross!
We must put on the mind of Christ to obey this verse of scripture. We must be filled with the Spirit of God to live as Jesus would have us live today.
When I am distracted by the affairs of the world I remember Jesus has shown me what is good. When my emotions war against my desire to serve Jesus I remember what He requires of me. When the world steals the sweetness of my relationship with Jesus I remember that He is a just, merciful and loving God!
It takes faith to walk humbly with Jesus!
When my faith is weak I remember that we were created in the image and likeness of Almighty God. We can act justly just as Jesus does. We can love mercy just as Jesus does. We can walk humbly with Jesus today because He walked in humility among us!
Remember the Lord. Jesus loves you. His desires for you surpass the passing pleasures of sin.
Remember, all things that glitter are not gold. Remind yourself that one day in the house of the Lord is better than ten thousand elsewhere!
Act justly today. Love mercy today. Walk humbly with your God by faith in Jesus Christ every day!
They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, On the day that I make them My jewels. And I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him. Then you shall again discern between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him. Malachi 3:17 NKJV
When I was sixteen years old I attended a Catholic Charismatic retreat. I was presented with the choice of following Jesus or continuing in my sinful lifestyle. I chose to continue in sin. God wanted me to turn from my sin to faith in Jesus.
I believed I needed to live better. I wanted to be a better person. Jesus wanted to heal me of the pain and sorrow I was running from. Jesus wanted me to receive and return His love!
My life before I came to Jesus was a blur of alcohol, drugs and immorality. I am thankful God allowed me to make such a mess of my life. My need was great. My vain attempts at self-medication led to greater, heartache and sorrow.
There are many people who do not know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior today. Many of them live good lives. They may not be perfect, but their lives have been good. All people have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Jesus sacrificed Himself for them as well.
Jesus created us in His image and likeness to live in a loving relationship with Him.
God’s greatest desire is for us to love Him with all our hearts, souls and strength. He wants us to love our neighbors as much as we lo ourselves. That is the life we were created for.
When we live outside of the loving relationship were created for we are left with a void in our lives nothing but Jesus can fill!
If you do not know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior call out to Him from the depths of your soul!
Maybe you are unsure of who God really is. Call out to Him today. Ask Jesus to reveal Himself to you.
Maybe you have known Jesus but something has drawn you away from Him. Call out to your God today. Confess your sins, mistakes and failures. Jesus is waiting to show you how much He loves you. Jesus is waiting to bring healing and restoration into your life.
God is waiting for you to make the decision to live with Him and for Him today. He is waiting for you to make the decision to live with Him in eternity.
Jesus gave you the freedom to choose how you will live today. He gives you the freedom to choose where you will spend eternity. Choose to live for Jesus today. Choose to follow Jesus Christ into eternity!
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them; You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy. Leviticus 19:1-2 NKJV
This is not an obscure or irrelevant verse of scripture. God’s command to be holy is a consistent message throughout the bible. Does God really expect us to be holy? Can we really be holy?
I am not a Pastor Priest or Theologian but my degree in common sense tells me if God commands us to be holy, He expects us to be holy!
The word holy means to be set apart. God expects His children to be set apart for His glory. God expects us to be set apart in a relationship with Him. God expects us to be set apart from people who do not live in relationship with Him.
My wife and I love each other very much. We live in a special set apart relationship with each other. I know many other women. I have relationships with some of them. None of those relationships is anything like the relationship I have with my wife. I do not give myself to any other woman the way I give myself to my wife.
Jesus wants us to give ourselves to Him in ways we do not give ourselves to anyone or any other thing!
I consider my wife in everything I do. I do not make decisions based on my selfish desires. Everything I do today must pass through the filter of my loving relationship with my beloved.
Jesus wants us to consider our love for Him in everything we do. Jesus does not want us to make decisions based on our selfish desires. Jesus wants everything we do to pass through the filter of our loving relationship with Him!
God calls us to live in obedience to His every command!
Jesus wants us to live a life of blessing and prosperity. When Jesus says something is good it is good indeed. When Jesus says something is bad it is truly bad. Jesus calls us to lives of Holiness and obedience because that is how he created us to live!
We cannot be holy. Only God is holy. Paul said it is no longer I who live but Jesus who lives in me. We are not holy because we are good people who go to church and follow the Ten Commandments. We are Holy because God the Holy Spirit lives in us. The Lord lives out the life of Christ through us!
You can live in Holiness by allowing Jesus to form His life in you and live out His life through you. Jesus lives in you to will and to do of His good pleasure.
It pleases Jesus to live out His life through you. It pleases Jesus to love you. It please Jesus when you express your love for Him through obedience to Him!
You drew near on the day I called on you, And said, Do not fear! Lamentations 3:57 NKJV
Jesus answers people who call on Him. He answers with loving-kindness. He answers with newness of life. God answers with the gift of eternal life.
Jesus wants to live in relationship with us. Jesus created us to be loved by Him and to return His love. This was His purpose from the beginning of time.
The Lord tells us not to be fearful. He promises to be with us until the end of time. Jesus will never leave us or turn His back on us. God’s love for you is so great there is nothing He would not do for you!
Jesus said we would suffer tribulation in this life.
Sometimes we wonder why things happen. Where is God? Does He hear our cries for help? Why doesn’t the Lord answer our prayers? Sometimes we have more questions than answers.
When we cannot find explanations for the circumstances of our lives, we must turn to what we do know. We know God is for us and not against us. We know God hears us when we cry out to Him. We know God draws near to us when we draw near to Him!
My father was a self-reliant person. He was an adventurer who traveled the world seeking excitement. He had no time for God. At the end of his life he suffered from ALS. His days of adventure came to an end.
When all that my father lived for came to an end he cried out to Jesus. The Lord heard his cry. My father surrendered his life to Jesus. My father’s physical body gave out. God was faithful to restore his eternal soul to newness of life!
Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. He brings us to the point in our lives where we will turn to Him. Jesus knows what it takes for us live the way He created us to live. He knows what it takes to bring us to the point where we can be useful to the master.
Jesus is with you in times of trial and testing.
There are things happening all around us every day that can cause us to worry and be fearful. Do not worry. Do not be fearful. Look at the circumstances of life through eyes of faith. Cry out to the Lord who surrounds you with His love. Jesus will answer!
God sacrificed His Son on a cross to reveal how much He loves you!
Jesus is waiting for you today. He is waiting to begin a new relationship with you. He is waiting to give you a new beginning. He is waiting to give your life new meaning. Jesus is waiting to share His life with you. Jesus wants you to draw near to Him so He can draw near to you.
Draw closer to Jesus every day!
I called on Your name, O Lord, From the lowest pit. You have heard my voice: Do not hide your ear from my sighing, from my cry for help. You drew near on the day I called on You, And said, Do not fear! Lamentations 3:55-57 NKJV
In 1977 I was a troubled teenager. My grandfather asked if I would go to a Christian retreat. I went out of respect for him. That weekend I began an incredible journey.
It was many years before I came to know Jesus as Lord and Savior but I knew God was calling me. I continued to live an immoral lifestyle. In my heart I had the desire to surrender my life to Jesus, but my flesh cried out No Not Now, Wait!
1992 was a year of great heart ache and sadness for me. I began to call out to God the only way I knew how. I recited the Lord’s Prayer.
God rescued me from heartache and depression. The Lord rescued me from the hopelessness and despair of drug addiction and alcoholism. He rescued me from a prison sentence. I asked God to restore my family. Jesus did just that and so much more!
When I cried out to Jesus He heard my voice. The day God drew near He began to communicate with me. One of the first things the Lord said to me is, “My hand has always been upon you!”
The Lord was protecting me for the day of my salvation. Jesus gave me what I needed when I needed it to believe He is God!
No one is beyond the Lord’s reach. No man or woman or child is so lost Jesus cannot save them. God wants everyone to enter into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ!
Jesus wants you to pray for the lost, the lonely and the brokenhearted. God wants to transform, restore and bless the people He created in His image and likeness. Jesus wants to use you to bring people to salvation!
God’s people are not immune to heartache and depression. Anyone can fall into hopelessness and despair. Drug addiction and alcoholism are far to prevent among God’s people. There are Christian men, women and young people floundering in prisons.
You cannot crawl into a pit so deep Jesus cannot hear you. There is nothing you can do that will cause God to hide His ear from your cry. The day you call out to Jesus He will draw near. What will Almighty God say to you?
Do not fear my child. I am here. I will help you. I have loved you since before the foundations of the world. I will never leave you or turn my back on you!
Maybe you thought God turned His back on you. He has not. Maybe people who want to harm you appear to be having their way. They will not. Jesus is on your side. Jesus called you by name because He has a plan to prosper your spirit and lead you into your eternal home!
