You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. John 15:16 NKJV
I love sharing the amazing things God has done in my life. There was a time when every civilization passed down the history of their people by telling stories.
The stories I tell are all true. I tell them to glorify God. God created us to be His witnesses. He created us to testify of His mercy and grace. God created us to testify of His great love for people.
My earthly father served in the Navy as a young man. He traveled the world. He loved camping hunting fishing and scuba diving. When I was boy he had me take pictures of him diving off a cliff. I snapped two before he hit the water.
My father was also a two-fisted bar room brawler and a womanizer. He lived for excitement. He was prideful and selfish. He called himself the plumbing god.
His grandparents took my father to a Baptist church when he was a child. As an adult he had no time or desire for God. He believed death would be the end of his existence.
The man who made no room in his life for family or God was diagnosed with ALS. His body became limp and useless. He spent the last two years of his life sitting in a chair tethered to a suction machine. He depended on other people for his every need.
One beautiful sunny day I prayed for my father as I drove down the road. God spoke to me. He said; “your father is saved”. When I arrived at my destination people were looking up. There was one small cloud in the sky. It had every color of the rainbow in it.
It was a promise from God that my father would be saved!
My dad surrendered his heart to Jesus a short time later. I was in the room when he went to be with the Lord. I told him the last thing he would every have to do is trust Jesus to take him home. He passed peacefully into the presence of his Savior!
Jesus is not saying the Father will give us everything we ask for in prayer. He will not give us things that harm us. Jesus is saying He has appointed us to bear fruit by answering our prayers of faith!
Why does God want us to pray for things He has already decided to do? God gave us dominion over the earth. He chose us to represent Him. The Father chose us to lead people to Jesus!
Pray in Jesus name for the Father to produce fruits of righteousness from your life. That is a prayer faith. It is a prayer the Father wants to answer!
You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; But I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.
You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. These things I command you, that you love one another. John 15:14-17 NKJV
If Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior He calls you His friend. He knows everything you have ever done. He sees everything you will ever do. He still considers you His Friend!
Jesus has chosen us to participate in His ministry. He created us to be extensions of His authority. He wants us to continue the work He began two thousand years ago.
Jesus is telling us we have access to the Father. God the Father will give us whatever we ask for if we ask in Jesus’ name. God does not want everyone to be rich and famous. Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water either. God does answer prayer!
Jesus wants us to ask the Father for things that are eternal. He wants us to pray for things that impact people. Jesus wants us to ask for things that will magnify His name and bring salvation to the lost the lonely and the brokenhearted.
Jesus wants us to ask the Father for things that bring about God’s will for our world.
The ministry of Jesus is to be continued by His people!
Closing a prayer with the words; “In Jesus name,” does not mean we are praying in Jesus name. Praying in Jesus name means praying for things Jesus would pray for. It means praying according to His will. It means praying with the authority Jesus gives us.
What would Jesus pray for today?
Jesus would pray for things that bring glory to God. He would pray for things that bless the people of God. Jesus would pray for us to love His people as much as He does. Jesus would pray for people who do not know Him to enter into a loving relationship with Him!
What do Jesus’ friends pray for?
Jesus’ friends pray for unity among God’s people. Jesus friends pray for God’s will to be carried out on the earth. Jesus’s friends pray for people who do not know the Lord to come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ!
Are you a friend of Jesus? If so pray according to His will today!
If you are not a friend of Jesus you can be. Call out to Him. Ask Jesus to be your friend. The Lord will you show you how to pray according to His will. Jesus will answer your prayer by bringing you into His eternal family!
This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. John 15:12 NKJV
And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. John 12:45 NKJV
Jesus was sent by the God the Father. He represented the Father in every way. The Father was with Jesus in all He did!
Jesus said, “He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me.” He also said, “I can do only what I see the Father doing.” And, “I must be about My Father’s business.
Jesus did not come to condemn the world. He came to save it. Jesus came to breakdown the gates of the enemy. He came to pull down the strongholds of the devil. Jesus came to establish the Kingdom of God on earth.
Jesus came to demonstrate God’s great love for us. He came to show us how much He loves the Father. His love for God the Father is so great He was obedient unto death. His love for us is so great He went willingly to the cross!
Jesus is our God our Savior and our example. If you have surrendered to the lordship of Jesus Christ you represent Him today!
The Father sent Jesus to show us how much He loves us. Jesus is sending you to show people how much He loves them.
Jesus wants us to show the world what true love is. He wants unbelievers to see our love for each other. It is a testimony to them. It is one of the ways God will draw people into His Kingdom.
At the cross Jesus said to His mother, “Woman behold your son!” To the Apostle John Jesus said, “Behold your mother.”
Jesus wanted the people He loved to love and care for each other. He gave them a practical example of His commandment to love each other as He loved them. Jesus did it as an example we should follow today!
Jesus is sending you out into the world. Jesus wants people to see Him in you. He wants you to show people how much He loves them.
Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” Jesus layed down His life so you could become His friend. He wants you to lay aside your selfish desires and sinful pride so other people can become His friends!
You will not be alone when you go out to represent Jesus. Your friend will be with you every step of the way!
By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. John 15:8 NKJV
God created Adam to live in intimate relationship with Him. He placed Adam in the Garden of Eden to work and maintain it. He allowed Adam to name the animals. He gave Adam authority over them. Adam had a personal relationship with God.
God told Adam he could eat the fruit of any tree in the garden except for one.
Adam and Eve disobeyed God. They ate the forbidden fruit. They gained the knowledge of good and evil. The first thing they did was hide their nakedness from God. They stopped trusting the Lord to instruct them in the difference between good and evil.
God asked Adam if he ate from the forbidden tree. Adam blamed Eve. Eve blamed the serpent. Adam never repented. God removed them from the garden. The relationship they enjoyed with God was severed. The entire human race was alienated from the Lord.
God chose David to be the King of Israel. He was rich and powerful. He could have had just about anything he wanted including wives and concubines. David committed adultery. When the woman became pregnant David murdered her husband.
From a limited human perspective David’s sin seems much worse than Adam’s sin.
When David’s sin was exposed he confessed. He repented. He did not blame his sin on anyone. David allowed God to determine what is good and what is evil.
David suffered consequences for his sin. But God referred to David as a man after His own heart. God promised David would not fail to have a son sit on the throne of Israel. The Messiah came from David’s family line!
The dictionary defines a disciple as; one who accepts and follows a teacher or a doctrine; a pupil or a learner.
Adam did not allow God to instruct him in the difference between good and evil. He led mankind away from the Lord. David was teachable. He led the nation of Israel to God. The Lord blessed David!
Jesus wants you to be His disciple. There are many things Jesus wants to teach you and show you. Will you open your heart to the Lord?
Will you allow Jesus to instruct you in the difference between good and evil? Will you glorify the Lord by bearing fruit for the kingdom of God?
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. John 14:26 NKJV
God is Holy. He calls us to be Holy. He commands us to love Him with all of our hearts souls and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. He calls us to take up our cross and follow Him. God calls us to be a Royal Priesthood and Ambassadors for Christ.
Jesus said we would do even greater things than He did during His earthly ministry. How can we speak for God, be His arms and legs, reach out to the lost the lonely and the brokenhearted today? We cannot, these things are impossible for us.
With God all things are possible. The Holy Spirit can do amazing things through us!
Jesus is called Emanuel, God with us. God is with us through His Holy Spirit today. He is not just in the world. He is in inside of us. Nothing is too difficult for God!
This has been a very difficult week for me. I focused on my circumstances. I gave myself permission to focus on other people instead of holding myself accountable. I took my eyes off of Jesus!
I heard a Pastor say; “The Christian life is to be lived above the natural and in the realm of the supernatural. The full resources of Almighty God are available to us through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit!” What does that mean?
Does it mean we will never get sick? Does it mean we will never suffer heartache or loss? Does it mean we will all be rich and famous? Does it mean I can claim that classy little BMW I saw on the freeway and Jesus will give it to me?
It does not mean any of those things. It means so much more. It means you and I can have joy regardless of our circumstances. We can worship God in spirit and truth regardless of how we feel. We can serve the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords!
God can use us to perform the greatest miracle of all. He can use us to transform people’s lives regardless of our past sins failures and mistakes. We can live for Jesus Christ today!
It does not matter if you have had a tough day week or month. God is in control. He is working out His good and perfect will in you and through you today!
Allow God to use you for His glory. Go out into your world in the power and might of Jesus Christ!
The Holy Spirit who is in you will lead you and guide you. He will show you where to go and what to say!
Do not trust in your resources or strength. Don’t depend on your intelligence or education. Do not lean on your own understanding. Trust Jesus. He is trustworthy!
A little while longer and the world will see me no more, but you will see Me, Because I live, you will live also, At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him. John 14:19-21 NKJV
Jesus told His disciples the world would not see Him much longer. Jesus would be leaving them and yet He said they would see Him. Because Jesus lives they would live.
The disciples witnessed Jesus’ death burial and resurrection. They would receive eternal life because Jesus lives. They would see Jesus because they are in Him and Jesus is in them. They would know truth because the Spirit of truth was coming to live in them.
Jesus reminds His disciples that to be a part of the loving relationship He exists in they must keep His commandments. Obedience to Jesus is the evidence of their love for Him. If they loved Jesus the Father would love them and manifest Himself to them.
Jesus is not just speaking to people who knew Him when He walked among them. Jesus is speaking to the people who know Him today. The world does not see Jesus or know Him today. Jesus’ disciples see Him. We see Jesus through eyes of faith!
I saw Jesus when my Pastor visited my son in the hospital. I saw Jesus when people were praying for my wife as she went into surgery.
I see Jesus through eyes of faith when He speaks to me through His Word. I see Jesus in the lives of people who are transformed by His grace!
We have eternal life because Jesus is alive. We know the truth because the Spirit of truth is in us. He forms the life of Christ in us!
Obedience to Jesus is the evidence of our love for Him. If we want to enter into an eternal relationship of love with Jesus we must learn to walk in His ways!
Obey the Lord because you love Him. Seek Jesus and learn to walk in His ways!
Ask Jesus to open your eyes of faith so you can recognize Him. Ask Jesus to reveal Himself to the people around you. Obey Jesus so people can see Him in you!
A little while longer and you will see Jesus face to face. His perfect love will cast out the shadows of sin and death. Your perfected body will enable you to worship Jesus in the beauty of holiness with opposition or distraction!
The devil our flesh and the sinful world system blind our eyes to truth. You must learn to see Jesus through eyes of faith. Jesus is the truth!
Show Jesus how much you love Him. You can see how much Jesus loves you through eyes of faith!

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. John 14:12 NKJV
Who am I to send out these daily messages? What makes me think I have the knowledge qualifications and understanding of God’s Word to write these devotions?
Those questions completely miss the point!
The question is not who am I, but what am I? I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I am the temple of the Holy Spirit.
What greater works is Jesus talking about?
Jesus is God. We cannot be greater than Him. God’s Word says we will do greater works than Jesus, How?
The Lord does not walk the earth in bodily form today. Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the Father praying for us.
The “Other Helper” The Holy Spirit is active in the world drawing people to the Father. He is in us, empowering and enabling us to be about the Father’s business!
When we submit to the Lord, yield ourselves to Him, obey Him and draw near to Him, Jesus’ ministry is multiplied. How do we submit to Jesus? How do we yield ourselves to Jesus? How do we obey and draw near the Lord? By faith!
By faith I get up in the morning. By faith I open up my bible. I ask Jesus which scripture verse He wants to send out. By faith I type out what the Lord puts in my heart and mind.
God is not a respecter of persons. I am not anyone special. If you step out in faith Jesus will give you what you need when you need it to accomplish His will for your life.
Jesus is not looking for spiritual superstars. The Lord is looking for willing servants!
Jesus is looking for men and women whose hearts are surrendered to Him. He is looking for men and women who will allow the Lord to do greater works in them and through them today!
Today is the day for you to do the greater works of God. Do what you can right where you are with what you have for the glory of God!
Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the Father interceding on your behalf. What is Jesus asking the Father for? Jesus is asking the Father to answer your prayers when you pray according to the Father’s will. What is the Father’s will?
God wants you to serve Him. Serve the Lord by faith in Jesus Christ!
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:34 NKJV
Jesus was speaking to His disciples. He would be leaving. He was preparing them to continue His ministry. Jesus never told His disciples to do anything He didn’t do. Jesus told His disciples I have loved you now you must love each other!
God the Father God the Son and God the Holy Spirit existed in a perfect loving relationship throughout eternity. God created us to live in that loving relationship with Him.
Sometimes we forget that our faith is based on love. God created you so He could love you. His love for you is immeasurable. His love for you is unfailing. His love for you is eternal. God gave His one and only Son as evidence of His love for you!
Why is it so important to Jesus that we love each other? God saved us so He could continue His Earthly ministry through us. He wants us to reflect His character to the world. Jesus wants to form His life in us and lives out His life through us so He can save other people!
Jesus wants to hold us up as examples of the great and mighty works He can accomplish in the lives of people who walk by faith in Him. Jesus wants people to see Him in us!
I walked away from a loving relationship years ago. Both of our hearts were broken. My life became a blur of drugs alcohol and immorality. I knew there was a God in heaven. I refused His love. I withheld my love from Him.
The Lord rekindled that love. My hard heart melted. It was a time of great joy. Something was still missing. Sin crouched at my door. I invited it back in. I was left physically emotionally and spiritually drained.
My love had given her life to Jesus. She stood by my side when she should have run for the door. Her love and devotion helped me emotionally. Her love and care helped me physically. Her love and prayer led me to Christ!
Jesus gives you the freedom to receive His love. He gives you the freedom to obey His commands. Jesus gives you the freedom to love people!
Will you obey Jesus’ command to love people? Will you allow the Lord to love people through you?
Your love can lead people to Christ!
Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved. Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask who it was of whom He spoke. Then, leaning back on Jesus’ breast, he said to Him, Lord who is it? John 13:23-25 NKJV
The Lord keeps bringing me back to this portion of scripture.
In the past when I considered the Apostles I admired Peter the most. I could relate to his personality better than the other Apostles. These verses changed my mind.
Peter is bold and brash. He is courageous and impulsive. Peter is naïve enough to step out in faith without really counting the cost. He has the desire to serve Jesus with all of his heart soul and strength. He is zealous for the Lord.
Our mission as Christians is to know Jesus Christ and make Him known to the world. Our calling is to grow in relationship with the Lord and help other people grow in their relationship with Jesus.
John is known as the Apostle whom Jesus loved. Didn’t Jesus love all the Apostles? Why is John known as the Apostle whom Jesus loved?
At the last supper John is sitting next to Jesus. He leans on the Lord while Jesus is speaking. The other Apostle’s have a question for Jesus. They turn to John.
No one is uncomfortable or surprised that John is leaning on Jesus. John did things like lean on Jesus all the time. Was John Jesus’ favorite Apostle?
God is not a respecter of Persons. John is called the Apostle whom Jesus loved because he freely expressed his love for Jesus and Jesus’s love for him.
Why was John able to express his love for Jesus so freely? John knew Jesus. Jesus’ love for John was not theology. It was reality.
John speaks of Christian love over twenty times in the New Testament. He wrote five of the books in the bible. Possibly the greatest revelation ever given to a man was given to John. John shared the love of Jesus with other people.
God loves you. That is not theology. It is reality. It was reality in John’s day. It is reality today. Jesus wants you to grow so close no one will be surprised when you lean on Him.
I like to think of myself as Jesus’ favorite disciple. It is not that I think Jesus loves me more than other people. He does not. It is not that I think I love Jesus more than others. I don’t. I call myself Jesus’ favorite disciple because I am in desperate need of His love!
There was a time when I was bold and brash. I thought I could do just about anything. I have learned that I can do nothing apart from Jesus. Have you? I am still learning to lean on Jesus for my every need. Are you?
Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved. Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask who it was of whom He spoke. Then leaning back on Jesus’ breast he said to Him, Lord, who is it? John 13:23-25 NKJV
John was kicking back, relaxed, unconcerned, not at the feet of the master but leaning on Jesus. John was so comfortable with Jesus he reclined on the Lord. John was as close to Jesus as he could get.
When Jesus told the disciples one of them would betray Him they were confused. They looked at one another in confusion. Peter motioned to John to ask Jesus who He is talking about. John leaned back on Jesus and asked the Lord.
John is described as the disciple Jesus loved. John knew Jesus wanted to be loved by him.
We should grow so close to Jesus people will come to us when they need answers. We should be so confident in our relationship with Jesus we can ask Him anything.
It took great boldness for John to draw that close to Jesus. The boldness to draw near
the Lord came from spending time with Jesus. The confidence to call out to Jesus for answers came from knowing the Lord loved Him!
Our Heavenly Father wants to use us to counsel and instruct people with the Word of God. He wants us to warn people of the consequences of living outside of His will and protection.
The Lord is calling us to rebuke people who claim to worship, love and obey Him but betray Him by their actions.
Judas had his feet washed by Jesus. He celebrated the Passover with the Messiah. Judas ate at the Lords table. Judas did not lean on Jesus. He held on to the money box. Judas chose to set his heart on Earthly treasure. He betrayed the Lord for thirty pieces of silver.
John chose to draw as near to the Lord as he could get. He chose to lead people to Jesus by counseling them with the Word of God. He chose to rebuke people who taught and believed a false gospel. John warned unbelievers of eternal separation from the Lord.
John is in the presence of the Lord today. Where will you spend eternity?
Will you draw near the Lord today? Will you serve Jesus by serving His people?
Will you spend eternity basking in the Sonlight of God’s love?
