He who dells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust?
Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look and see the reward of the wicked.
Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; for He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.
“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation. Psalm 91
This chapter of Psalms seems to be a favorite quote during these uncertain times. It comforts me when I am fearful and overwhelmed by uncertainty. I love the imagery of thousands falling all around while the Lord watches over me!
The death rate of saved and unsaved people is identical if you exclude Enoch and Elijah. God took them before they tasted death. There will be a generation of Christians who will be taken in the blink of eye. They will go directly into God’s presence.
I have heard amazing stories of Jesus rescuing people when their lives were in danger. The Lord rescued me several times. One minute I was surrounded by danger. Suddenly I was looking around wondering how it could have vanished so quickly.
If God’s people are not immune to pain and suffering, devastation and death how are we to make sense of these verses? Our Heavenly Father wants us to live out our lives with an eternal perspective!
God promises to protect us from all evil! Our lives are sealed with the promise to usher us safely into the Lord’s presence where we will live with Jesus throughout eternity!
Never doubt the Lord’s power to protect you from harm! Don’t forget God loves you so much His Son tasted the sting of death for you! Do not ever stop trusting in God’s perfect wisdom! Don’t take your eye off the prize of eternity with the Lord of Glory!
And they said to him, “We each have had a dream, and there is no interpretation of it.” So Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell them to me please.” Genesis 40:8 NKJV
While Joseph was in prison he served two of Pharaoh’s officers. Each of them had a dream. They believed their dreams revealed something about their future. They were puzzled by the dreams. They sought out someone to interpret their dreams.
I’ve known people who study, “dream interpretation”. I have seen people keep books on the subject by their beds. This type of dream interpretation is a form of manipulation. It is a way of seeking to control events through any means possible. It is witchcraft!
When Joseph declared, “Do not interpretations belong to God” he was declaring the sovereignty of God to people who were looking for truth in all the wrong places. Joseph stood up in the midst of a dark and evil generation to declare that truth is revealed by the hand of God!
Was God revealing Himself to Pharaoh’s officers?
God gave them a glimpse of their future only he could provide. The Lord made it clear to the Egyptian officials that He speaks forth through His servant Joseph. They failed to understand the significance of God speaking into their lives.
God speaks through His servants today!
Does God speak to His people through dreams and visions today? Does God give some of His servants the gift of interpreting dreams?
Some Christians say God does speak in the same way today. Others say God does not speak to people in the same ways He spoke in biblical times. How and when God speaks to people is not an issue we should argue about or divide over!
God speaks through His written revelation to mankind. The bible is the Word of God!
The Lord will never contradict the truth that is found in the bible. Jesus does speak through His servants when we declare His Word to people who are looking for truth in the wrong places!
Jesus wants to use us to declare the Word of God to people in need of wisdom and truth. We all need more wisdom. We need to focus on the truth of God today more than ever before!
Almighty God adorns Himself with wisdom and light. Draw near to Jesus so He can give you His heart for His people. Draw near to the Lord by spending time in His Word.
Declare the truth of God’s Word to people who are looking for truth in the wrong places today!
The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph’s authority, because the Lord was with him; and whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper. Genesis 39:23 NKJV
Joseph was wrongly accused of sexually assaulting his master’s wife. He was sent to Pharaoh’s royal prison.
It is difficult to believe God was with Joseph. It is difficult to believe God was blessing Joseph. His situation went from bad to worse. And yet Joseph was placed in a soft prison for the rich and famous.
Joseph managed the prison. How did the Egyptian officials feel about having a Hebrew slave in authority over them? Did they resent Joseph the way his brothers had?
God was building Joseph’s character. Joseph became a man of integrity even when faced with hostility and resentment. Even when offered the passing pleasures of sin. Joseph learned to speak the truth regardless of his circumstances. Joseph learned to walk in the authority given to him by the One in authority over him.
I was a real estate broker. I earned more money than I had ever made before. Since then my family and I lost our home. My car was repossessed. Our financial situation was so bad we were not sure how we would feed our family.
The journey from financial success to failure was difficult. We were not alone. Many people experienced similar circumstances.
Jesus wanted our attention. He wanted us to get our priorities in order. The Lord wanted us to rely on Him to meet our needs. He used the financial crises to mold and shape us into the people He created us to be. Jesus used the financial crises to save people!
If we trust Jesus with our futures, needs and desires He will be with us as we navigate our way through life. One day we will see the Lord face to face. We will spend eternity with Him. There will be no more testing if we persevere and press on in faith today!
I know the rest of the story. I have read the end of the book. God revealed what the future holds for people who call on the name of Jesus today. It will be an eternity of blessing in the presence of the one who is perfect in all His ways!
I wrote this twelve years ago. The world is in crisis today. Pestilence hangs over the world like a dark cloud. The death toll is rising. A once bustling economy is shattered. People all over the world are unable to work. What can we do!
Call out to Jesus for the strength to endure. Call out to Jesus for wisdom to draw near Him. Call out to Jesus for strength to walk in the authority He gave you to serve Him!
Use the authority Jesus gave you to pray for God to end the pandemic of pestilence. Use the authority Jesus gave you to end the plague of fear!
The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. Genesis 39:2 NKJV
Joseph was the favorite son of Jacob. His father gave him fine clothes to wear. Joseph was usually at home with his father while his brothers were out working in the fields. Joseph was spoiled. He was hated by his brothers.
Joseph reminds me of his father. Jacob was a liar, a schemer and a thief. These men had character flaws. They were also men of great faith in God. They pursued God in spite of their sins. They trusted the Lord despite their bad habits and character flaws.
Joseph was sent to spy on his brothers. They conspired to kill him. They threw him into a pit. Joseph’s brothers ignored his pleas for help. They sold him to a passing caravan.
Joseph became a slave in Egypt. The Lord was with Joseph. God blessed him in his work. His management skills earned him favor with his master. Or is there another reason?
Joseph was blessed because he was exactly where God wanted him to be.
God was with Joseph in the pit and on the journey to Egypt. God was molding Joseph and shaping him into the man the Lord created him to be. God was transforming a spoiled boy into a man who could be used to provide for people during a time of famine.
If we did not know the full account of Joseph’s life it would be difficult to understand why he suffered so much. It would be hard to see the hand of God leading him and guiding him in the way he should go.
If your journey has led you into a time of trial and hardship it may be difficult to understand why God has allowed it. It may be hard to imagine the result of the work God is doing in your life today.
During the hardships, trials and suffering through the valley of weeping and mourning God prepares us for the mountain top strolls of life!
God has not abandoned you. He is with you during the trials and hardships you face. He is for you, not against you. The Lord does not expect you to enjoy trials and hardships. Jesus wants you to trust Him to accomplish His good and perfect will for your life!
Jesus wants you to know He can mold you and shape you into the person He created you to be. Jesus can use you despite your sins, bad habits and character flaws!
Jesus loves you! He will never ignore your pleas for help. Jesus will be with you in the pit of sorrows. Jesus will be with you on your journey through the stronghold of the enemy!
Surrender to the work Jesus is doing in your life and you will be successful in all that you do in His name!
Then God said to Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother. And Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, Put away the foreign god’s that are among you, purify yourselves, and change your garments. Genesis 35:1-2 NKJV
God told Jacob to set up an altar where the Lord appeared to him when he was running from his brother. Jacob ran after tricking his father into giving him the blessing intended for Esau. God blessed Jacob after he tricked his father and stole his brother’s blessing.
Jacob had a dream. He saw a ladder reaching to the heavens. Angels ascended and descended on it. God spoke to Jacob from above the ladder. God would give Jacob the land he stood on to him and his descendants. Why would God give Jacob such a dream?
God wanted Jacob to know His servants travel back and forth between Heaven and Earth. His Angels work to carry out His will. God reigns supreme over everything. God wanted Jacob to know He would be in the land He gave to Jacob and his descendants.
God told Jacob to make an altar to Him in Bethel so he would recognize it as a holy place. A place where God would dwell with His people.
Jacob called upon his family members and servants to put away their false god’s and cast aside their idols. Jacob called on his people to purify themselves unto the Lord and replace their dirty clothes with fresh clean garments.
Look down at where you placed your feet today. It is holy ground!
God dwells with His people today. God goes before you everywhere He leads you. The Lord is with you today. He is your rear guard as He leads you and guides you in the way you should go today!
I do not know if Jesus has ever appeared to you. I do not know if Jesus has ever spoken to you. I do know that if Jesus is your Lord and Savior He revealed Himself to you. Jesus is speaking to you today!
God’s angels are at work in the world today. His angels travel back and forth between Heaven and Earth today. The servants of God are at work in the world carrying out His good and perfect will today.
Jesus reigns supreme over the angels who serve Him. He reigns supreme over the people who live upon the Earth. He reigns supreme over Heaven and Earth and the creatures that dwell in them today!
Jesus is calling us to cast aside the false god’s and idols of our day. He is calling us to remove our soiled garments and replace them with garments of salvation and praise.
God wants us to cast aside anything that might hinder us as we dwell in the promised land of abundant living in Jesus today!
And He said, Let Me go, for the day breaks. But he said, I will not let You go unless You bless me! So, He said to him, What is your name? He said, Jacob. And He said, Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed. Genesis 32:26-28 NKJV
Our relationship with God can be described as a struggle. We struggle in different ways at different times. We may struggle to live according to God’s perfect plan for our lives. We may struggle in our meager attempts at trusting God with our lives.
The same God who wrestled with Jacob wants us to grab a hold of Him today. God wants us to hold on to Him so He can bless us!
Today a friend asked if I had a word for Him. The word I had for him was prosperity of spirit.
Jesus wants to bless us today just as He blessed Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Jesus wants to bless us with the true riches of His Kingdom. Jesus wants to bless us with prosperity of spirit.
My definition of prosperity of spirit is to be filled with the joy of the risen Lord regardless of the trials, troubles and tribulations we face!
Jacob wrestling with God reminds me of my daily struggle with the sovereignty of God. I know God is sovereign. I know God has ultimate authority over all things in the heavens above and on the Earth below.
My struggle is with my circumstances. I know God can change them at any time. I pray often for God to change my circumstances. Quite often He does not.
The Lord knows that we will struggle with His sovereignty and authority over all things. He knows we will struggle with the circumstances of our daily lives.
Jesus wants us to hold on to Him as we struggle with the trials, troubles and tribulations of life in a fallen world. Jesus wants us to know He will bless us with prosperity of spirit if we trust him enough to hold on to Him in faith!
Trust Jesus today to get you through tomorrow so you can share the love of God with people who desperately need to know how much Jesus loves them!
Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you. Genesis 28:15 NKJV
God appeared to Jacob. The Lord spoke to Jacob. He promised to bless Jacob just as He promised to bless Isaac and Abraham before Him.
The Patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were used by God in great and mighty ways. God will never use anyone in the same way He used Abraham. The same is true of Isaac and Jacob. The Lord created each of them for a unique purpose.
Jesus created you to be used in great and mighty ways today!
The Lord created you to be unique among all the people who have ever lived. God created you to be used for His glory and the good of people He loves today. Jesus will never use anyone in exactly the way He plans to use you!
God created each of us to be His servants. How do I know God created each of us for a divine purpose and as part of His eternal plan for His beloved? The bible tells us so.
Maybe Jesus revealed His plan and purpose for you in a unique way. Jesus may have revealed that you will serve Him in a specific way. Perhaps His plan for your life has not yet begun to unfold in the way Jesus revealed it. Do not lose heart.
The Lord will not leave you until He has accomplished all that He has spoken to you. Jesus has not forgotten you. He has not abandoned you. He has not changed His mind. Jesus will bring about His good and perfect plan for your life at the appointed time!
Do not be deceived or disappointed in any way. Every promise of God revealed to us in the bible was written to you and for you today!
God has a unique and special plan for your life. God has a very specific role for you to play in His eternal plan for His creation. God created you to do great and mighty works in Him and through Him as He restores His creation one heart and soul at a time!
Trust the Lord who is with you everywhere you go today. Trust Jesus to accomplish all He desires to do in you and through you today and every day!
Because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept my charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws. Genesis 26:5 NKJV
The Lord appeared to Isaac. God led Isaac in the way he should go. The Lord told Isaac not to go down into Egypt but to live in the land God would show him.
God told Isaac, “Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father. And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.”
God is fulfilling His promise to bless Abraham by blessing his son Isaac!
Can one person set an example of Godliness for generations of his or her descendants to follow? Can one person make a difference in the lives of billions of people? Abraham did!
The Lord promised to bless Abraham because Abraham believed the things God said to Him. God blessed Abraham because he had the faith to obey His commands.
If we live our lives by faith in God we can set an example for generations of our children to follow!
When God appeared to Isaac and told him not to go into Egypt Isaac obeyed the Lord. Isaac obeyed God’s voice just as Abraham did. God did not just bless Isaac because of Abraham’s faithfulness. God blessed Isaac because of his personal obedience to God.
Abraham and Isaac made mistakes. They were not perfect. The sinned, failed and made mistakes. God credited them with righteousness through their faith in Him!
We make mistakes. We sin. We fail to live up to the holy standards of a righteous God. God credits us with righteousness through our faith in Jesus!
God holds our children accountable for the decisions they make. We cannot save our children. We cannot live for them. We can set an example of godliness and faith for them to follow. We can pray for them!
Jesus saved us. He delivered us from meaningless lives lived out in separation from God. He brought us into the promised land of faith in Him. Jesus will be faithful to do the same in the lives of our children!
All people who call on the name of Jesus will be saved. Trust God with the lives of your children. Trust Him with your life today and every day!
And Esau said, Look, I am about to die; so, what is this birthright to me? Genesis 25:32 NKJV
What is a birthright? How can a person sell or trade a birthright? In our culture the word birthright really does not have much significance. It has become unusual for a man to leave an estate to his first-born child and exclude other children.
I am my father’s first born. I carry his name. I cherish his memory and the things he taught me. I distributed his estate according to his wishes.
I am responsible to represent my father in a way that will honor him and make him proud. I am proud to be my father’s son. I will always be my father’s son even though he went to be with the Lord years ago.
Esau’s birthright meant nothing to him. He valued his birthright less than a bowl of stew.
Was a birthright passed from father to son by means of a “birthright deed” that could be traded or sold? Was a “birthright certificate” issued? Did the seller of a birthright give up his sandal to signify that the birthright had been transferred from seller to buyer?
How would we go about determining the value of a person’s birthright? Can I sell or trade my birthright? It does not matter. I would not sell my birthright for any amount of money. I would not trade my birthright for anything.
If I wanted to trade or sell my birthright how could I? It is a part of me. It is who I am. I cannot be separated from it.
Esau gave up something that could never be bought, sold or traded.
Esau separated himself from the respect and honor of a godly father. He separated himself from the blessing of his Heavenly Father and lineage of the Messiah. Esau thought so little of his birthright he thought he was cheating his brother!
If you have been born again into the Kingdom of God you have received a birthright.
You we will receive an inheritance from the Lord. Our Heavenly Father is our portion. We will receive everything God promised to people who love Him and are called according to His purposes!
What is God’s purpose for us? Jesus saved us so we can represent Him. Jesus saved us so we can honor Him. Jesus saved us so He can reach the lost, the lonely and the brokenhearted with His saving grace.
Jesus saved us so we can leave a godly heritage to our children. Jesus saved us so other people can receive an inheritance from the Lord!
Represent your Heavenly Father in a way that will make Him proud of you!
But you shall go to my father’s house and to my family and take a wife for my son. Genesis 24:38 NKJV
Abraham made his servant swear not to take a wife for his son from the Canaanites. He said, “The Lord, before whom I walk, will send His angel with you and prosper your way, and you shall take a wife for my son from my family and from my father’s house.”
Why was Abraham so insistent his son not marry a Canaanite woman? Why did Abraham want his son to take a wife from his father’s household?
The Lord told Abraham his descendants would number more than the sands of the seashore and the stars in the sky. God would make him a great nation. Kings would come from his body. Through his son the families of the world would be blessed.
Abraham believed God. Abraham knew God would do great and mighty things in his son’s life. Abraham knew Isaac would need a godly wife so he could walk uprightly. Abraham knew God would lead Isaac to the helpmate the Lord chose for him.
God never changes. He is the same yesterday today and tomorrow. The Lord has the same desires and instructions for us He had for Abraham. He wants us to marry within the household of God. He wants us to be blessing to the people in our world!
If you are a single the Lord wants you to marry a godly person. God tells us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. It’s not because God does not like them. He loves them. It is not because we are better than unbelievers. We are not.
A yoke is an attachment that is placed on a team of oxen so they can work together. If two oxen yoked together do not pull in the same direction the cart cannot move forward.
God wants us to bless the household of God. He also wants us to bless people who do not know Him. God wants us to trust Him to bring the right people into our lives. Jesus wants us to bring godly children into the world to produce a godly heritage for Him.
Jesus wants our children to give glory and honor to Him. He wants our children to be a blessing to us in our old age. We do not know what great and might things God may have in store for them.
The Lord wants you to trust Him with your marriage. If you trust Him to bring that special person into your life He will bless you with a Godly heritage. Your marriage can bless other for generations to come!
Jesus does not want to deny us any good thing. He wants our relationships to strengthen and encourage us. He wants to use them to bring joy and wisdom into our lives. Don’t turn your back on unsaved people. Don’t look down on them.
Love all people. Don’t let the darkness of a fallen world dim the light of faith in Jesus that shines in your heart!
