I will lift up my eyes to the hills-From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. Psalms 121 NKJV
Was the Psalmist looking to the hills for danger? Was he looking to the hills for deliverance? Only the Lord knows. We do know this pilgrim Psalm affirms that our help comes from the Lord. Jesus helps people who seek Him. Seek Jesus today!
What lurks just beyond the horizon? Is it illness, betrayal or financial hardship? How will the Lord deliver healing and restoration? It will come. Almighty God helps people who trust Him.
He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. Vs 3-4
It may seem like Jesus has gone away and left you alone. He has not. He will not. The same God who watched over Israel for thousands of years is watching over you today!
The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. Vs 5-6
When we suffer the loss of people we love it can be difficult to believe God watches over us day and night. Our circumstances do not invalidate the Word of God. The Word of God brings the murky circumstances of life into focus!
The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore. Vs 7-8 NKJV
God is more concerned with keeping us from evil and preserving our souls than protecting us from trials or even keeping our temporary bodies from harm. That does not mean Jesus will not intercede and protect us from hardship and heartache!
God wants us to live with an eternal perspective!
Life is a vapor that appears and fades from view. How long will you walk upon the earth? Only God knows. Only Jesus can guarantee you will live on in eternity!
If you have bowed your head and bent your knee in submission to Jesus you have God’s Word and promise. Your body will decay but your spirit will soar into eternity!
Do not be afraid to offer yourself to the Lord. He will reward you with an eternal life that will not be hindered by sin, shame or suffering.
Life can be scary. Do not be fearful. Jesus is keeping watch over you right now!
In my distress I cried to the Lord, And He heard me. Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips And from a deceitful tongue. Psalm 120:1-2 NKJV
David prays for deliverance from false accusers. His enemies inflicted great distress upon him, or did they?
David’s enemies never defeated Him. There were times when he was overcome on the battlefield of his mind!
I heard someone say, “It is none of my business what other people think of me.” It really does not matter what people say about us either!
David was far too concerned with what other people were saying about him.
David was the anointed leader of God’s people. He could have killed the people gossiping and lying about him. He chose not to. He trusted God to take vengeance on his enemies.
The Lord described David as having a heart after His very own. The Lord accepted David regardless of his sins failures and mistakes. God loved David. Kings came forth from David’s body. Jesus Christ was of the house and lineage of David!
I do not know if David had an inordinate need for approval and acceptance. I know many of us do. It is one of the reasons we give in to peer pressure. It is why we care so much what other people think and say about us!
Someone I hardly know said very harsh things about me. I told him his opinion was irrelevant. I rehearsed the conversation over and over again in my mind until I was enraged. I didn’t sleep well for days. I was so tense my body ached.
We all long for acceptance and approval. Both are available to us today!
Jesus has anointed you to be a leader among His people. He wants to form His heart in you. He wants to give you the wisdom only he can. The King of Kings and Lord of Lord’s resides within you. You will dwell in His Kingdom and reign with Him throughout eternity!
Jesus created you to be loved by Him. He accepts you just as you are. You do not need with people who celebrate you!
Cry out to the Lord when we you are hurt and angry. Take control of your thought life.
Be victorious on the battlefield of your mind through faith in Jesus Christ!
I rise before the dawning of the morning, And cry for help; I hope in your word. Psalm 119:147 NKJV
Sending out these messages gives me an opportunity to interact with the Word of God daily!
In times of trial and hardship I look to the Word of God for hope and encouragement. In times of uncertainty and confusion I look to the Word of God for guidance and direction. In times of plenty and prosperity I look to the Word of God for wisdom and perspective.
Jesus wants us to turn to the Word of God for all things. He wants us to turn to the Word of God for every need we have. In these uncertain times we need God desperately. We also need Jesus when all seems good and well. Perhaps we need Him even more.
Truth appears to change rather quickly in our world. Truth never changes. It is the perception of truth that changes. The world has lost its way. It has turned its back on God!
Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation. He is the only way to spend eternity in the presence of God. Jesus Christ is the Word of God. Jesus reveals God’s character and love to us. Jesus is the fulfillment of God promises!
Jesus is the only Way to the abundant life God created us to live. Jesus is the Way to overcome the challenges, hardships and tribulations we all suffer. Jesus is the only Way to a life that pleases God!
God wants you to spend time in His Word today. He wants to encourage you with His Word today. Jesus wants to teach you and train you up through His Word.
It does not matter if you rise-up out of bed early or late you can cry out to Jesus for help anytime you need Him.
Turn to the Word of God for encouragement, hope perspective and truth whenever you need them. Jesus is always available. He never sleeps or takes a vacation. Jesus never grows weary of your cries for help. Jesus never gets tired of spending time with you!
Spend time with the Word of God today!
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105 NKJV
God’s Word reveals where we are in our relationship with Jesus. It pierces the darkness of unbelief. It strips away the false foundation of self-confidence. It reveals the consequences of our choices. God’s Word tells us where we will spend eternity!
God’s Word reveals the path that leads to death and destruction. It also reveals the path that leads to blessing and eternal life.
Several years ago Jesus began speaking to me about my life. God called me His servant. The Lord told me I would be His witness and a minister of the Gospel. Jesus stirred up a desire within me to trust Him in a way I had never trusted Him before!
God gave me the idea of sending out e-mails to share with other people the things He puts in my heart. How could I be sure it was God speaking to me?
God calls people who trust Him with their lives His servants. We are all called to be His witnesses. The Word of God tells us we are called to be ministers of the Gospel. We are called to testify of the mercy and grace of God. We are called to share God’s love with people!
God speaks to us through our thoughts other people and the circumstances of life. God can also speak to us through dreams and visions.
When God speaks how will you determine if it is the Lord? We must test everything by the gold standard of God’s Word. The Lord will never contradict His written Word. The bible is the filter through which all personal experience and revelation must pass.
There are many voices vying for our attention. Most of them conflict with the Word of God. They distract us from living according to the Lord’s perfect will.
If you have been born again through faith in Jesus Christ you are His servant. Serve Him with a pure heart. You are God’s witness. Testify of His love for you and your love for Him. You are a minister of the gospel. Trust God to speak to you and through you!
A witness cannot give second hand information or hearsay when called to testify.
If you have not experienced God’s love first hand call out to Jesus today. Choose the path that leads to eternal life where there is unending joy. Surrender your heart and life to Jesus Christ!
Almighty God wants to guide you along the path of your life with the light of His Word.
Trust Jesus in ways you have never trusted Him before!
Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me Your statues. Psalm 119:12 NKJV
The Lord said, “Learn to walk in My ways.” I began to meditate on those words. I considered exactly what it means to walk in the ways of God.
Psalm 119 begins; Blessed are the undefiled in the way, Who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, Who seek Him with the whole heart! They also do no iniquity; they walk in His ways!
Some Christians believe God only speaks through the bible. Others believe God speaks to us in many ways. Just how God speaks to us is something we can agree to disagree about. It is not an issue we should divide over.
If you believe God spoke to you in one way or another compare those words with scripture. If it is confirmed by scripture the Lord did speak to you. If what you believe the Lord said to you is not biblical God did not speak to you. The Lord never contradicts His written Word.
Jesus wants us to know what “Learn to walk in my ways” means. Jesus wants us to know what the bible has to say about living on planet Earth today. More importantly Jesus wants us to live our lives the way the bible tells us to live today.
Jesus wants to teach us how to live so we can glorify His holy name. Jesus wants to teach us how to live so He can bless us and use us to bless other people!
If you have never read Psalm 119 or if you have not read it recently read it today. God uses this chapter to show us the beauty of His Word. He uses this chapter to explain that obedience to His Word can keep us from sin and bring us to spiritual maturity.
A man woman or child who lives in obedience to the Word of God will be blessed. A person who lives in obedience to God will be used by God to bless other people!
Do you love the Lord? Learn to walk in His ways. Do you want to serve Jesus? Learn to walk in His ways. Do you want God to use you to glorify His name and bring other people to salvation? Learn to walk in His ways.
Do you want to see people set free from bondage to drugs, alcohol, and unbelief? Learn to walk in God’s ways. Do you want to spend eternity in the presence of Jesus and the people you love? Learn to walk in His ways!
The Word of God is food for our souls!
God provides us with food to nourish our bodies and our souls. It is our responsibility to feed ourselves. Never have so many people had access to the Word of God than today. God has provided. We must choose to feed our souls.
Walk in the ways of Almighty God by faith in Jesus Christ today!
But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
For we say to you by the Word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 NKJV
Is God telling us we should not mourn our loved ones who have passed into eternity?
The Apostle John lived a long life. He had to be carried into meetings when the faithful gathered. When asked if he had anything to say John repeated the words, “Little children love one another over and over again!” When asked why John said, “Because when done it is enough!”
Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Jesus wants us to love each other as much as He does. How could He expect us to love each other so deeply and not be impacted by the separation and loss when people are taken from us? He does not!
Jesus knows we are not robots. Jesus gave us the feelings and emotions that color our lives in shades of joy and mourning.
God wants us to comfort each other with the truth that we will be reunited with our loved ones who have been taken from us. We will join them in eternity. They will be raised before us. They will be waiting to greet us in the image of Christ!
When we are reunited with our loved ones our joy will be complete and unending. Our relationships will not be tainted by sin. We will love each other as much as Jesus does. It will be the greatest reunion ever.
Jesus will be our host. We will gather around the banqueting table the Father prepared for us and partake of the Lord’s Supper with our Savior. Jesus has been waiting 2,000 years to host the great reunion of the redeemed!
God knows your sorrow. He knows your pain. He does not expect you to keep a stiff upper lip or put on a happy face. Jesus wants to love you through seasons of heartache. He wants to comfort you in times of sorrow.
Comfort each other with the hope that we will be reunited with our lives ones and spend eternity together with Jesus!
This is the day the Lord has made; We will be glad and rejoice in it. Psalm 118:24 NKJV
I sit down at my computer in faith. I believe God speaks to me and through me. God is calling me to encourage people. He is calling me to exhort people to step out in faith. The Lord is calling me to share the love of God with people who do not know him.
I don’t know how the Lord will use you today. I don’t know how you will bless His people. I do know God is calling you to step out in faith. He is calling you to share His love with people who do not know him!
Jesus Christ is coming back. He will take us to live with Him in holy perfection. God wants us to enjoy our lives today. This is the day that the Lord has made; rejoice and be glad in it!
Today will not be perfect for any of us. You may have lost your job. You may have lost your home. God loves you today. He is for you and not against you today. You can rejoice and be glad today by faith in Jesus!
Have you experienced God’s love? Is Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior? If your answer is yes He wants to spend time with you today? Turn to him right now.
If you have never surrendered to your heart to Jesus call out to Him today. He is waiting to show you how much He loves you today. Choose to receive God’s love today!
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Vs 26
What does “come in the name of the Lord” mean? How can we go anywhere or do anything in Jesus name?
I’ve sinned failed and made countless mistakes. I’ve repeated some of those mistakes more often than I would care to admit. I have also had the great blessing of being used by the Lord in amazing ways!
My sins failures and mistakes have all been the result of Louie doing things Louie’s way. I fed my filthy flesh, groveled for fool’s gold and walked the well-worn path of the multitude. The lust of the flesh and the pride of life left me feeling empty inside!
When I cast my gaze to heaven and surrendered my life to Jesus the Lord filled my heart with His desires. I was awe struck by the might and wonder of a mighty and wonderful God. I came and went in the name of the Lord!
We can be blessed by coming and going in the name of the Lord if we choose to surrender to Jesus today!
There are people who choose to come and go in their own name. The will receive their reward in this life. Do not be one of them. Be blessed throughout eternity by faith in Jesus Christ!
Praise the Lord, all you gentiles! Laud Him, all you peoples! For His merciful kindness is great toward us, And the truth of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord! Psalm 117 NKJV
This exhortation to praise God is the shortest and middle chapter of the bible.
Gentiles were non-Jewish people. The word “gentiles” can be used to describe non-believers today. Jesus wants all people to praise Him. That is why the Lord created us!
Jewish people did not associate with gentiles. Israel believed they were the soul inheritors of the Kingdom of God. They were wrong. God wanted to use Israel to reveal Himself to the world. God wants all people to live in loving relationship with Him!
God tells us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. That does not mean we should discriminate against them. It does not mean we should turn our backs on them. It means we should not be joined together with unbelievers in a way that draws us away from Jesus.
Jesus wants us to live differently than unbelievers. He wants us to live for Him. He wants to live through us so unbelievers can see Jesus in us. The witness of our relationship with Christ and Him living through us is how God will draw unsaved people to Jesus.
We see the two reasons why so many people have unbelieving hearts in this chapter.
Unsaved people are blinded to truth. The devil’s deceptions, the desires of our sinful flesh and the peer pressure of the world system deceive all of us to some extent.
Some unsaved people do not believe God’s is merciful and kind. How can anyone believe mercy and kindness exists at all if God is not merciful and kind?
Belief that God is a source of evil hardens unbelieving hearts and blinds eyes. It is a lie!
God loves all people. He wants everyone to love Him. He is merciful and kind to all people. He is the source of all truth. His truth will prevail!
Jesus can pierce the hardest of hearts with His love. He can restore broken lives. He can heal wounded souls. Jesus uses people who love and obey Him to reach people!
It can be very difficult to love people with hard hearts. It can be very hard to be merciful and compassionate with people in bondage to sin. Christ calls us to love everyone. How can that be possible?
It is not possible for me or you to love everyone. With God all things are possible!
Surrender your heart and life to Almighty God. Let Jesus use you to reach people today!
I love the Lord, because He has heard My voice and my supplications. Psalm 116 NKJV
The psalmist declares His love for God.
I have heard people say we should not boast about our love for God. We should boast about His love for us. That makes good sense to me. And yet it is so vital for our own faith that we stand up and declare our love for God.
By declaring his love for God the psalmist is taking a leadership position among His people. Shouldn’t we do the same? The Lord wants us to stand up and declare our love for Jesus to encourage other people to do the same!
Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live. Vs 2
My heart longs for simple truth. I love the Lord! I really do. I long to simply rest in that love. Instead I search for ways to explain my love for My God to other people. I search my heart for ways to express my love for my best friend, Jesus!
In 1992 my heart was broken by hopelessness and despair. I cried out to God from the depths of my soul. I hoped He would come to my rescue. I discovered that He did not need to come to my rescue. Jesus was with me during the season of heartbreak and despair.
God began to communicate with me in ways I never thought He would. One of the first things the Lord spoke to my heart was; “My hand has always been upon you”. Jesus was protecting me during the years I walked through the valley of the shadow of death.
Jesus was leading me and guiding me home on my journey through the dessert of sin. When I fell into a dark pit of despair Jesus pulled me out cleaned me up. Jesus filled me with His Spirit. Jesus set me up in a high place. Jesus called me His beloved!
I call out to the Lord in one way or another every day. Jesus is always near enough to hear my cries. The Lord moves even closer when I incline my heart to Him. Jesus always answers me with peace and love!
I love Jesus! I don’t love Jesus just because He answers when I call out to Him. I love Jesus because He loves me. His answers just remind me of His great love for me!
Jesus loves you! He is near enough to hear when you cry out to Him. He draws even closer when you incline your heart to Him. If you call out to Jesus He will answer you with peace and love!
Love isn’t meant to be tested rationalized analyzed or explained. Love is God’s greatest gift to us. Jesus gave it to us to be treasured and enjoyed!
Declare your love for Jesus today!
Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, But to Your name give glory, Because of Your mercy, Because of Your truth, Why should the gentiles say, “So where is there God?” Ps 115 NKJV
This Psalm contrasts the futility of idols with the trustworthiness of God.
I read an article written by a woman who said she’s not mad about a movie with a sexually based theme. “What keeps me up at night are people who love God but who haven't experienced God's healing or provision because of a corrupt religious system. I'm disturbed that most of the church has yet to experience the outpouring of the Holy Spirit that the infant church in the book of Acts had inaugurated."
The Holy Spirit is not changing the morality of the world. He is drawing people to the Father through the revelation of Christ. He is raising people who were born dead in trespasses and sins to newness of life. He is setting people free from sin!
Their idols are silver and gold, The work of men’s hands. Those who make them are like them; So is everyone who trusts in them. Vs 3 & 8
Legalism and false religion put us back into bondage as surely as our idols do! They are also just as useless!
The psalmist calls on God to protect and bless Israel for His glory and honor. God answers our prayers when we pray according to His will.
May the Lord give you increase more and more, You and your children. May you be blessed by the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. Vs 14-15
The Lord wants to give us and our children more. The awesome powerful God who created the heavens and the earth wants to bless us. What does He want to give us? What does He want to bless us with? Is He talking about money?
God wants to give us more than we can imagine. Not just money but more of the things that put our hearts at peace and give our lives meaning. We must stop seeking fool’s gold so we can pursue the deeper riches hidden in Christ Jesus!
God wants us to let go of everything that keeps us from surrendering to the transforming work He wants to do in us. He can use us to help other people let go of things keeping them from seeking the deeper riches God has in store for them!
The best way to influence our world is to surrender our hearts and lives to Jesus Christ so He can be lifted up before the world!
If you spend all your time cursing the darkness your life will be consumed with it. Surrender your heart and life to Jesus.
Lift-up the name of Christ so other people can see Him!
